Radiator cap

Radiator cap
Fig. 2.109. Radiator cap: a - position of valves at a pressure of radiator cap kPa 81,4-108 in the cooling system; b - position valves radiator cap when vacuum 6.86 kPa in the cooling system; 1 - exhaust valve; 2 - a cover of a radiator; 3 - spring;
4 - spring inlet (vacuum) valve;
5 - the inlet (vacuum) valve

The cooling system is closed radiator cap (Fig. 2.109).
The radiator cap installed exhaust and intake valves. When a sudden increase in temperature or boiling coolant raises the pressure in the cooling system is increased and the temperature of boiling liquid, thereby increasing the heat transfer of a radiator. When the pressure in the system opens the outlet valve cover and a pair of connection to the atmosphere, thereby avoiding cavitation at the suction side of the water pump.
Upon cooling, the pressure in the system decreases, and through the inlet (vacuum) valve in the cooling air is sucked.

Check the radiator pressure cap
Through an adapter, connect the radiator cap to the control unit to check the radiator cap.
Increase the pressure until the needle is no longer moving.
The opening pressure of the exhaust valve - (107,9 ? 14,7) kPa.
Closing pressure of the exhaust valve - 83.4 kPa.
Make sure that the pressure is equal to or greater than the required value.
Replace the cap of the radiator, if the pressure does not correspond to the desired value.

A WARNING
Before testing, make sure that the cover is clean, since rust or other foreign material laying on the cover can cause incorrect readings.

Check the radiator cap
Check the radiator cap for damage, cracks and wear.
Connect the radiator control panel to check the radiator cap.
Increase the pressure to the device until the needle stops.
If the needle is fixed for 10 seconds at a point higher than the operating limit, then the lid is OK.
