Thermostat

Coolant thermostat speeds engine warm and maintains the thermal regime. When starting a cold engine coolant circulates around the cylinder block and cylinder head. Warm coolant passes through the radiator heater to the water pump. Receipt of the coolant through the radiator is stopped by closing the thermostat. When the coolant reaches a certain temperature, the thermostat opens and the hot coolant flows through the radiator hose. As the coolant passes through the radiator, it is cooled by the flow of oncoming air.

Withdrawal
Drain the coolant to a level below the thermostat or him.

Remove the screws and remove the inlet coolant and washer (Fig. 2.122, 2.123). Remove the thermostat.

Check

Use of a thermometer (1) and the water vessel (2) to verify the valve opening temperature of the thermostat

and a water vessel (2) to verify the valve opening temperature of the thermostat

Lower the thermostat and a thermometer in a glass container with water (Fig. 2.124). By heating the water, check the temperature of the thermostat valve opening and, if necessary, replace it.
Valve opening start temperature - 80-84 ? C, temperature of complete opening of - 95 ? C.

Setting

Position the thermostat
Fig. 2.125. Position the thermostat

Make sure that the flange of the thermostat is properly installed in the pipe casing of the thermostat. If the thermostat is set incorrectly, it touches the lower edge portion inside the inlet manifold, which will result in correct operation of the thermostat is broken (Fig. 2.125).
Install the inlet coolant with a new gasket and tighten bolts to torque:
- Engine DOHC - 10-15 Nm;
- Engine V6 - 17-20 Nm.
Fill the cooling system with clean coolant.
