Four and five-speed automatic transmission

Programme of Work
The control system provides automatic transmission various programs of work gearbox. Depending on the driver or the conditions of the vehicle chosen, or economical, ie aimed at saving fuel program or an active program which is quite can be called "sport."
Selection of the work program transmission is performed automatically, depending on the nature of the driver with the accelerator pedal.
During slow or normal character with the accelerator pedal due to the early inclusion of the higher gears and the late shift to a lower gear it is possible to save fuel.
The so-called "sports" program is selected the gearbox when the accelerator pedal control is carried out quite sharply. It should press the accelerator pedal is not so vigorously as to not unnecessarily move the threshold pressure on the accelerator pedal, for which there is a compulsory anticipatory including lower transmission provided in the transmission control - kickdown. When "sport" mode is fully used reserves of engine power due to some delay shift to a higher gear.

NOTE
Depending on the resistance to movement, eg when towing a trailer or driving at Wake up, this is automatically selected program by switching to a lower gear to provide increased traction on the drive wheels, and thereby avoid a permanent shift.

Lock selector
The selector in positions "P" and ?N? when the ignition is blocked. To output selector from this position to press the brake pedal and push the button on the selector lever. Because of this there is no situation where by negligence may be included one of the transmission, and the car will begin to move without any control from the scene.
To remind the driver to press the brake pedal and push the button in the handle of the selector in the instrument panel warning lights warning lamp.
The construction of an automatic transmission device is provided for the delay so that when moving from one position to another position through the ?N? (for example, by ?R? to ?D?) was not blocked by the selector. This enables "rocking" the vehicle got stuck. Only when the selector when the brake pedal is not pressed more than one second in the position ?N?, the selector is locked.
When speed above 5 km / h lock lever in position ?N? automatically turns off.

Positions selector

Lever Automatic Transmission
Fig. 1.68. Lever Automatic Transmission

P - Parking lock.
The drive wheels are mechanically locked.
The selector must not be moved to this position only when the vehicle is completely stopped. Before turning on and off position "P" must be pressed the lock button on the handle of the selector. Before turning off this position when the ignition should be further depress the brake pedal.

ATTENTION
Never during movement does not move the lever to position ?R? or "P". Transmission can go out and building a risk of accident.

R - Reverse.
Position backing should be included only when completely stopped the car and at engine idle. Before moving to the position ?R? of the positions "P" or ?N? must press the brake pedal and push the lock button in the handle of the selector.
In position ?R? when the ignition burn reversing lights.
N - Neutral position (idling position).
In the derivation of the selector from position ?N? at a speed of 5 km / h, and when the vehicle is stationary and the ignition switched on, press the brake pedal and push the lock button on the handle of the selector. However, no need to press the lock button when out of position ?N? selector is transferred to the position ?D?.
D - Long-term progress.
Four transfer switch from low to higher and vice versa automatically, depending on the engine load and the speed.
Under certain driving conditions it is advisable to temporarily use one of the following positions.
3 - Position for "hilly" sections of the road.
Such a position of the selector is recommended when a certain driving conditions at the position of the selector in the position ?D? frequent switching occurs from the 3rd to the 4th gear and reverse.
To translate the selector in this position you must press the lock button in the handle of the selector. Automatically switched up and down the first, second or third transmission depending on engine load and speed. 4th gear locked. Through this also increases the braking effect of the engine fuel cut.
2 Position for mountain roads.
This position is recommended for prolonged ascents and descents.
Automatically switch up and down the first or second gear, depending on engine load and speed. 3rd and 4th transmission remain blocked to avoid unnecessary switching to higher gears. It also increases the efficiency of engine braking.
1 - Position mountain road sections with steep slopes.
The choice of this position is recommended when driving on steep inclines.
When this position you must press the lock button on the handle of the selector. The car moves only in first gear. 2nd, 3rd and 4th transfer blocked to avoid unnecessary upshift. This achieves the greatest possible effect of engine braking.
Cruise control in position "1" of the selector can not be used.

NOTE
With manual switching DESC can go to the "3", "2" and "1"; However, switching to a lower gear is automatically only when, after switching is not exceeded the maximum permissible engine speed.

Recommendations regarding the selection of positions
Start the engine.
The engine can be started only when the selector lever position control positions "N" or "P". See. Also "Start the engine.
Positioning for the movement.
Before you move the lever in one of the positions of motion for the vehicle is stationary and the engine running should always depress the brake pedal.
If you select positions in the vehicle is stationary, do not push the accelerator pedal.
If while driving a selector was accidentally set to position ?N?, it is necessary to transfer the lever in a position forward course take your foot off the accelerator pedal and wait for the idling of the engine.

ATTENTION
With the engine running at the position of the selector must be in any position motion to keep the car with the foot brake, as even at idle the engine torque transmission to the wheels completely interrupted - car "creeps."
If the vehicle is stationary choose one of the positions of movement, can not in any case an uncontrolled pressure on the accelerator pedal (including increasing the supply of fuel by hand from the engine compartment). The car will start to move once - and it can happen under certain circumstances, even when the parking brake is applied.
Before carrying out any work on the engine is running, set the selector lever to position "P" and apply the parking brake.

Accelerates.
Select one of the movement positions (R, D, 3, 2, 1). Wait until a transfer switch in the gearbox and the power flow reaches the drive wheels (in this case there is a faint jerk). Only then press the accelerator pedal.
Stop.
When short-term stop, such as at traffic lights, there is no need to move to the position ?N?. It is sufficient to hold the car with the brakes. The engine, however, must work only at idle.
Parking.
In order to prevent uncontrolled rolling of the car you're after a full stop of the car must always be firmly apply the parking brake. Additionally, set the selector of an automatic transmission in position "P".
On the road with a slope you should first tighten the parking brake, and then put the selector in the position of the parking lock. Due to such operations, the order of the latching mechanism will not be too heavily loaded, and subsequently can be easily derived from this selector position.
Towing with a view to starting the engine.
Towing or pushing a car with an automatic transmission with the purpose of starting the engine can never lead to start the motor.
When the battery is discharged possible to start the engine by means of connecting wires use the battery of another vehicle.

Kick-down
Kick-down device (forced proactive shift to a lower gear) provides the maximum according to the terms of the motion acceleration of the vehicle. Once the pressure on the accelerator pedal exceeds a certain threshold value, depending on the engine speed and the speed is switched to one of the lower gears. Switching back to the nearest, followed by a higher gear only when reached the maximum value of the engine speed.

ATTENTION
Keep in mind that on a slippery road driving wheels at a compulsory anticipatory switching to a lower gear can start to slip. There is a danger of demolition.

Manual shift automatic transmission predach
This mode shift (system "tiptronic") allows the driver to shift gears manually.
To go to the manual shift program is necessary to translate the selector from position ?D? to the right. The transition may be implemented as the vehicle is stationary and in motion. When changing gear, the display shows the number "5, 4, 3, 2, 1". It shows when the moment transfer (see. Arrow).
Gently push the lever forward () activating the transmission up a little push back (-) - consistently down.
During acceleration of the car is an automatic inclusion of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear shortly before reaching the maximum engine speed.
If the driver is made to switch to any transfer to a lower gear, transmission control include the lower gear only when there is no danger of engine twist.

Lock selector
The selector in positions "P" and ?N? when the ignition is blocked. To output selector from this position to press the brake pedal and push the button in the handle of the selector. Because of this there is no situation where by negligence may be included one of the gears and the car will begin to move without any control from the scene.
