The fuel pump and fuel level sensor

The fuel pump and fuel level sensor
Fig. 4.14. The fuel pump and fuel level sensor: 1 - fuel level sensor; 2 - the screen of the fuel filter; 3 - unit of the fuel pump; 4 - a cover; 5 - a tube of return of fuel; 6 - the fuel supply tube; 7 - consolidation; 8 - coupling nut 80 Nm; 9 - the electrical connector of the fuel pump and fuel level sensor; 10 - a sealing ring; 11 - opposite the tube; 12 - lower section of the housing

On models with petrol engines the fuel pump with fuel level sensor is installed in the fuel tank (Fig. 4.14).
The design of the fuel level sensor includes a potentiometer and the associated float. By reducing the amount of fuel float drops, the resistance of the potentiometer increases while the voltage on the fuel gauge located in the instrument cluster is lowered.

NOTE
On vehicles with additional heater pay attention to the direction of fitting the supply tube heater.

Withdrawal
Before disconnecting the battery, check whether you have the code switch on the radio.
Switch off the ignition and disconnect a wire of "weight" from the storage battery.
The fuel tank must not be filled to more than one-third volume. If necessary, drain off excess fuel.
Remove the cover of the fuel pump and fuel level sensor located under the luggage compartment carpet.

Disconnecting the electrical connector and the location of supply tubes (1) and return (2) of fuel at the fuel pump
Fig. 4.15. Disconnecting the electrical connector and the location of supply tubes (1) and return (2) of fuel at the fuel pump

Disconnect the 4-pin electrical connector (Fig. 4.15).

A WARNING
The fuel system is pressurized. Before releasing elements of the fuel system to relieve pressure in the system. To do this, close the connection point of the fuel system and a clean cloth, being careful, gently loosen the union nut.

Sign the fuel supply hose 1 (see. Fig. 4.15) and the fuel return pipe 2 and disconnect them from the cover.
3217 Using the special tool, unscrew the union nut 8 (see. Fig. 4.14), the fuel level sensor by turning it clockwise and remove the seal 7 and 8.

Arrangement of electric sockets fuel level sensor (1), the fuel pump (2) and a fuel feedback pipe (3) underneath the lid

On the underside of the lid, disconnect the electrical connector 1, the fuel level sensor (Fig. 4.16), it does not disconnect the electrical connector of the fuel pump 2.
Remove the union nut and remove the fuel pipe 3 reverse underneath the lid.

Location recesses (1) on the inner casing section and the pointers (2 and 3) on the outer casing section
Fig. 4.17. Location recesses (1) on the inner casing section and the pointers (2 and 3) on the outer casing section

Through the opening in the fuel tank install special tool 3307 onto the inner section of the casing of the fuel pump and turn the pump together with the inner section of the counter-clockwise until it stops (about 15 ?), wherein one recess (Fig. 4.17) should be combined with the pointer 2. Remove the fuel pump housing interior section.

Setting
Installation spend to sequences, return to removal, taking into account the following.
Install the inner section to the outer casing, and the seizure of 1 (see. Fig. 4.17) should be combined with the index 2, and move the inner section of the casing down.
Install the special tool 3307 onto the inner section of the casing of the fuel pump and turn the pump together with the inner section in a clockwise direction until it stops (about 15 ?), wherein one recess (see. Fig. 4.17) should be combined with the index 3.

Connect reverse fuel tube 2 (see. Fig. 4.1 .16) to the underside of the lid. When installing the fuel pipe feedback replace the O-ring, a new ring of pre-lubricated fuel.
Connect the electrical connector of fuel level sensor 1 (see. Fig. 4.16).

The combination of the label (1) on the cover with a label (2) on the fuel tank during the installation of the fuel pump and fuel level sensor
Fig. 4.18. The combination of the label (1) on the cover with a label (2) on the fuel tank during the installation of the fuel pump and fuel level sensor

Replace the cover with a new gasket, and the mark 1 (Fig. 4.18) on the cover should be aligned with the mark 2 on the fuel tank.
3242 special tool, tighten the coupling nut on the fuel level sensor and the fuel pump to 80 N ? m.
Connect to cover a 4-pin electrical connector (see. Fig. 4.15).
In accordance with the previously applied markings connect the fuel hose 1 (see. Fig. 4.15) and return fuel hose 2.
Connect a wire of "weight" to the battery.
Turn on the radio and enter the code.
Lift up the power window glass until it stops. Then click on all window switches again for at least 1, in the closed position of the control unit to activate windows.
Set the clock.
After separation of the various electrical connections in the memory control unit writes error information to be erased after installation.
Start up the engine and check the tightness of supply.

Checking the fuel pump
Before testing, make sure the battery voltage is not less than 12, the fuel filter is clean and the ignition is off.
To check, you must have:
- A device for measuring DC voltage (voltmeter);
- 1-pin electrical connector for connection to the fuel pump fuse.
The fuses are located in the fuse box located on the left side of the instrument panel.
The fuel pump relay (number 4) is located in the central unit under the bottom panel of the housing with the driver
Blade screwdriver to open the fuse box cover. The fuel pump fuse S228 is located at number 28.
Remove the fuel pump fuse.
Connect one end of the 1-pin plug to the right fuse S228 of the fuel pump. The other end of the wire connected to the positive terminal of the battery, and the fuel pump should start. The noise generated by the fuel pump can be heard around the fuel tank.
If the pump does not work, check the electric circuit of the pump.
Disconnect the other end of the wire from the positive terminal of the battery.
Remove the cover of the fuel pump and fuel level sensor located under the luggage compartment carpet.
Disconnect the 4-pin electrical connector (see. Fig. 4.15). Connect to the extreme terminals (1 and 4) from the connector wire voltmeter and a second end of the wire connected to the positive terminal of the battery, and the voltmeter should show the battery voltage.
If the voltage at the terminals of the connector is missing, faulty electrical circuit or the fuel pump relay.
If the voltage at the terminals of the connector is present, and the pump is not working, check the fuel pump.

The fuel tank must not be filled to more than one-third volume. If necessary, drain off excess fuel.
3217 Using the special tool, unscrew the union nut 8 (see. Fig. 4.14), the fuel level sensor by turning it clockwise and remove the seal 7 and 8.
Check the connection of the electric fuel pump connector on the underside of the lid, as well as the state and the resistance of the fuel pump. If the electrical connector and wires are serviceable, means, the fuel pump is faulty and must be replaced.
