Heated tailgate window glass

Heating element tailgate window glass consists of horizontal conductive strips are connected on both sides of the vertical rails. One bus is connected with the "+" on-board power supply, the other - with the "weight" of the body. Supply voltage 12 V electric heater
If after the electrical heating surface of the glass remains untreated, check with a voltmeter or a test lamp, if there is voltage at the terminals of the heating element of the glass. To do this, a test lamp (or voltmeter) connected to the terminal "+" of the electric heater and the "weight" of the body. If the supply voltage is missing, check the wiring and the power supply circuit cell repair.
If the power supply circuit of the heating element is working properly, check its conductive strips.
Compliance is checked with the engine running and incorporated electrical heating. Voltmeter, measure the voltage in turn on all bands by connecting one terminal of the voltmeter to the "weight" of the body, and the other series to the conductive strips. If the voltage measured by the voltmeter at the beginning and end of the strip, and the same is approximately equal to the battery voltage, check the contact "mass" wire of the heating element with the car body.
Tension on the strip should decrease as the distance from the place of connection of the voltmeter positive polarity bus element. The voltage must be measured at least at two locations equidistant from the axis of symmetry to avoid the possibility of missing the damaged portion. If you notice inconsistencies in the testimony of one of the bands to move the contact wire voltmeter along this strip as long as the voltage is zero. The sharp decline in voltage indicates a band gap in this place. Note on the outer surface of the glass or a shallow place collotype gap for subsequent repair the damaged area.
To repair the heating element can use one of the commercially available specific kits. Although the sets made by different manufacturers, their composition is approximately the same and they are all provided with instructions for use. Below is a typical procedure for dealing with these sets.
1. Remove the strips of land 6 mm on each side of the damaged area.
2. Wipe the damaged area with a clean cloth dipped in alcohol.
3. Stick on the glass strip the site of injury or repair tape two pieces of ordinary adhesive tape above and below the repair area, the distance between the sections of tape must match the width of the conductive strip on the glass.
4. Thoroughly mix the hardener with the base composition of silver. If hardener thickened, put the package with him in hot water and wait until the curing agent becomes liquid.
5. Apply a wooden spatula composition to the repair area and remove the tape.
6. Install the heater at a distance of 25 mm from the damaged area composition and heat for 1-2 minutes. The minimum heating temperature of 149 ? C.

NOTE
In some kits composition should not be heated: it polymerizes at room temperature.

7. If, after the drying band discolored, apply her makeup brush toning iodine - color stripes restored. After the iodine composition dries within 30 seconds, wipe with a clean lint-free cloth its surplus. During the polymerization of the repair composition lasts 24 hours, excluding any mechanical impact on the repaired area of the strip.
8. Turn on and check the heater rear window.
If the wire is pulled away from the tire, solder it solder containing 3% silver and resin paste as a flux in the following order.
1. Clean the soldering on the bus and the conductor wires.
2. Brush apply on connected wires and place the tire a little rosin paste.
3. Apply a thin layer of solder on the conductor wires.
4. Solder the wire to the bus, avoiding the overheating of the parts.
