Adjusting the axial clearance pinion

Disconnect the field coil wire from terminal "M" pulling the relay.

Driving adjust the axial clearance of the pinion
Fig. 7.56. Driving adjust the axial clearance of the pinion

Connect the wires from the terminals 12 V battery (via a switch) to the terminals ?S? (+) and ?M? (-) magnetic switch (Fig. 7.56).
Set the switch to "ON." In this case, the starter pinion gear pops forward until it stops.

ATTENTION
This test must be carried out quickly, no more than 10 seconds, to prevent the coil from burning starter.

Check axial clearance pinion
Fig. 7.57. Check axial clearance pinion

With the probe measure the axial clearance between the pinion gear and the limiting ring. If the axial clearance does not correspond to the nominal values range, adjust it by installing or removing shims between the traction relay and the starter front bracket (Fig. 7.57).
Nominal backlash: 0,5-2,0 mm.
