Camshafts and tappets

Withdrawal
Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Remove the engine cover and air intake tube.
Disconnect the breather hose and harness connectors from the cylinder head.
Remove the accessory drive belt.
Remove the pulley with the power steering pump, air conditioning compressor, the crankshaft idler pulley and tensioner.
Remove the cover of a gear belt.
Loosen the tension of the toothed belt and remove it from the camshaft pulleys.
Remove the spark plug caps from the high voltage wires.

Camshafts
Fig. 2.75. The camshafts are: 1 - a bolt, 5-6 Nm; 2 - the cylinder head cover; 3 - exhaust camshaft; 4 - The front cover of the bearing of the camshaft; 5 - bolt 90-110 Nm; 6 - inlet camshaft; 7 - gland; 8 - a pulley of a camshaft; 9 - chain; 10 - the left cylinder head; 11 - Back Cover camshaft bearing; 12 - oil filler cap; 13 - the camshaft position sensor; 14 - crankcase ventilation hoses; 15 - a lining

Remove the bolts and remove the cylinder head cover (Fig. 2.75).
Holding wrench for clamping flat camshaft from turning, remove the bolt and remove a pulley of a gear belt from a camshaft.
Remove the bolts and remove the camshaft bearing caps.

Removing the camshaft cylinder head
Fig. 2.76. Removing the camshaft cylinder head

Remove the camshafts (Fig. 2.76).

Check
Check the neck of camshafts for wear. If they are worn, replace the camshaft.
Check the working surfaces of cams of camshafts for wear. If the cams are worn out or damaged, replace the camshaft.
The nominal height of the cams Inlet camshaft - 43,95-44,15 mm exhaust valves - 43,95-44,15 mm.
Minimum permissible height of the cams camshafts intake and exhaust valves - 43.45 mm.
Check bearings for damage. If the bearing surface is badly damaged, replace the cylinder head assembly or the camshaft bearing cap.
Axial backlash of a camshaft - 0.1-0.15 mm.
Check the sealing lips of oil seal for wear. If the working edge of the gland is worn, replace the oil seal.
Check the surface of the camshaft in contact with the gland, for wear. In the presence of wear, replace the camshaft.

Check of hydraulic jacks of backlashes of valves retaining plug (A) and pressing the case (B)
Fig. 2.77. Check of hydraulic jacks of backlashes of valves retaining plug (A) and pressing the case (B)

Filling hydraulic jacks of backlashes of valves with engine oil, hold the plug A (Fig. 2.77) and hand click on the housing B. When the housing is moved in the compensator, replace the hydraulic valve clearance compensator.
Other faults of hydraulic jacks of backlashes of valves are shown in Table. 2.9.
Check the chain for wear and with a large wear, replace it.

Setting
Install the hydraulic jacks of backlashes of valves.

Combining marks (1) Stars (2) and a chain (3)
Fig. 2.78. Combining marks (1) Stars (2) and a chain (3)

Install chain on asterisks of camshafts, having combined labels, as shown in Fig. 2.78.
Apply a thin coat of clean engine oil on the neck and cams of camshafts and install camshafts.

A WARNING
To check on the press-fit the camshaft sprocket remover is necessary to apply a force of 1000 kg at room temperature.

Install the camshaft bearing caps. Check the identification label that identifies the camshafts intake or exhaust valves:
?I? - intake camshaft;
"E" - the exhaust camshaft.
Tighten two or three bolts receiving bearing covers the following points:
- M10 - 14-16 Nm;
- Bolts M7 - 10-12 Nm.
Apply engine oil to the outer surface of the camshaft oil seal and a special tool (09221-21000) install the oil seal on the front of the camshaft.
Install the oil seal with a hammer on a special device.
Install toothed belt pulley on the camshaft and fix a bolt, having tightened its moment of 90-110 Nm.
Install the cylinder head cover and fix bolts, having tightened their torques in accordance with the specification as follows:

The sequence of the bolts fastening the cylinder head cover
Fig. 2.79. The sequence of the bolts fastening the cylinder head cover: a - in front of the engine

- Tighten all bolts torque equal to half of the time given in the specification in order of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 (Fig. 2.79);
- Tighten all bolts in the sequence 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 to the specified torque.
Tightening torque - 5-6 Nm.
Set the high voltage wires and the central casing of the engine.
Install the timing belt and pulley mechanism tighten automatic tensioner.
Install the timing belt covers.
Establish pulleys on power steering pump, water pump, air conditioning compressor, the crankshaft and the tensioner.
Connect the crankcase ventilation hose connectors and wiring harness.
Set the air intake pipe and the engine cover.
