Replacing the brake pads

Elements of the rear brake mechanism shown in Fig. 6.24.
After removing the wheels, remove the brake drum.

A WARNING
If the brake drum is difficult to remove, screw bolts into the threaded holes of the brake drum and remove it.

Remove the nut fastening the flange rear hub bearing and remove the rear hub with brake drum.
Remove the upper and lower return springs brake pads and spring washers fixing pads.
Remove the brake pads complete with automatic slack adjuster brake pads.
Check
Measure the inner diameter of the brake drum. Replace the brake drum if the inner diameter of the drum exceeds the limit.
The diameter of the brake drum:
- Nominal - 228.6 mm;
- Maximum - 230.6 mm.
Measure the thickness of the rear brake pads. Replace all the brake pads on the same axle of a vehicle, even if the thickness of only one pad is less than the maximum allowable.
The thickness of the brake linings:
- Nominal - 4.45 mm;
- Minimum allowable - 1.5 mm.
Check the uniformity of fit brake pad to the brake drum.
Check the outside of the working brake cylinder for wear and damage.
Check the support hub for wear or damage.
Setting
Apply universal grease SAE J310, NLGI ?��2 at the point of contact pads:
- A protective cover;
- To the anchor plate.

Install a finger lock brake pads (Fig. 6.25).
Click on the pusher, set the return spring.

A WARNING
Do not reuse the cotter pin and the hub cap.

Measure the outside diameter of the brake pads mounted regulator and adjust the size (227,6-228,1 mm) (Fig. 6.26).
Install the brake drum.
Adjust the parking brake stroke.

Replacing the working brake cylinder
Lock the front wheel stops.
Lift the rear of the car and establish on supports.
Remove the rear brake pads.
Remove any dirt around the junction of the brake pipe and the rear of the working brake cylinder.
Unscrew the coupling nut; being careful, remove brake tube from the working brake cylinder and close the cap.
Remove the two mounting bolts of the brake cylinder to the protective casing of the rear brake. Carefully remove the working brake cylinder.

Remove the dust covers from the working brake cylinder (Fig. 6.27).
Remove the piston and the piston sleeve.
Remove the return spring.
Before assembly, the working brake cylinder, check the condition of the following elements:
- Cylinder and piston - to wear, damage, and the presence of dust;
- Clearance of the piston in the cylinder - 0,039-0,089 mm;
- The case of the working brake cylinder - for damage and cracks;
- The contact surface of the piston and the brake pads - for wear;
- Spring piston - the loss of elasticity.
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal.

WARNINGS
Before assembly, clean the working brake cylinder with isopropyl alcohol.
Lubricate the brake fluid piston and cylinder sleeves.
Use the new cuffs and dust covers.
Be careful - do not lose the steel ball.
