The exhaust manifold is located behind the engine.

This arrangement allows the use of shorter exhaust pipe and improve efficiency of manufacture. Furthermore, due to the reduced distance to the catalytic converter, the exhaust gas temperature drops only slightly, so the catalyst works more efficiently. Cooling the exhaust gas also prevents the use of two-layer pipes of the exhaust manifold (Fig. 2.64).
