general information

On cars PASSAT installed four-, five- and six-cylinder engines. On chetyrehtsilidrovyh engine cylinders are arranged in one plane, and the six-cylinder engine the cylinders are arranged in two planes at 90 ? to each other (6V). Engine cooling is performed with coolant. The motors are located in the engine compartment along the axis of the vehicle.

The cylinder block is made of cast iron, a material in which A direct but made the engine cylinders. Cylinder head in light alloy and is bolted to the cylinder block. The cylinder head pressed steel guides and valve seats. To the bottom of the cylinder block of the engine oil pan is attached to which drains oil needed to lubricate and cool the engine.

In gasoline engines, the cross-flow scheme is used in which the fuel-air mixture flows into the cylinder chamber on one side of the engine, and the exhaust gases are removed from the other side of the engine. With this arrangement, the engine is significantly improved filling of the cylinder fuel-air mixture WHO and removal of products of combustion. In diesel engines, to save space the intake and exhaust manifolds are located on one side of the cylinder head.

The petrol engine 1,6-I, and the diesel engine 1,9-I

The camshaft is installed in the cylinder head and is driven by a toothed belt from the crankshaft pulley. Management of intake and exhaust valves mounted vertically, made cams camshaft via hydraulic tappets. For feeding fuel to the cylinders of the diesel engine using high pressure fuel pump mounted on the cylinder block and driven by a toothed belt.

The engine 1,8-I

1 - camshaft operating final valves
2 - camshaft operating inlet valves,
3 - hydraulic pusher,
4 - toothed belt,
5 - roller mechanism of a tension of a gear belt. Roller tensioner with pneumatic shock absorption,
6 - damper,
7 - a nave visco-coupling
8 - power steering pump,
9 - a pulley of the generator,
10 - piston
11 - air feed line to the engine,
12 - dipstick oil
13 - the fuel pressure regulator,
14 - the fuel injector,
15 - Chain

This engine per cylinder installed five valves - 3 intake and 2 exhaust. The drive valve by two camshafts. One camshaft operates the intake valves and one camshaft - discharge. Drive the camshaft operating final valves, made toothed belt from the crankshaft pulley.

The drive camshaft operating intake valves, made a chain from the camshaft operating final valves. Increasing the number of valves per cylinder improves filling of the cylinder fuel-air mixture and removal of the products of combustion.

Engine-I 2,3 (VR5)

The engine VR5 five cylinders arranged in two planes at an angle of 15 ? in one block. Two camshafts mounted in the cylinder head are driven by a chain. Each cylinder is installed on one intake and exhaust valve.

Engine-I 2.8 (6V)

Each cylinder is fitted with three intake and two exhaust valves. In each section of the cylinder is installed separate cylinder head with two overhead camshafts. A distribution box tional shaft controls the intake valves and one exhaust. Timing controlling exhaust valves, by one toothed belt. The drive camshaft operating inlet valves is carried out by the camshaft controlling the exhaust valves.

All engines

Adjust the valve clearances is done automatically using the hydraulic tappets, and does not require manual adjustment.

For the supply of oil to metal parts of the engine oil pump, which is in four- and five-cylinder engine is located in the oil sump and drive it carried out an intermediate shaft. On the six-cylinder engines, the oil pump is located in the front cover of the crankshaft and the drive it is carried out directly from the crankshaft. Under the pressure of the oil supplied to the channels to the bearings of the crankshaft and camshaft.

Water pump for four- and five-cylinder engine is mounted on the side of the cylinder of the engine. A water pump is a V-belt or Poly-V auxiliary, which also drives a generator, power steering pump and air conditioning compressor. On the six-cylinder engine water pump located in the front of the engine and driven by a toothed belt. Keep in mind that the engine cooling system must be filled all year round with a mixture of antifreeze and water with a low lime content.

Preparation and inflammation of the cylinder air-fuel mixture is carried out the engine control system, which requires no adjustments. Ignition timing and idle speed is regulated by the engine management system. During the maintenance is necessary to replace the spark plugs and air filter element.

A warning

The radiator fan may turn on after turning off the engine and ignition, so when working on the engine is hot, be careful. To the radiator fan does not turn on, disconnect from the engine cooling fan electrical connector.
