Accumulator battery

Location
Battery is located in the engine compartment or the rear of the vehicle.
Battery in the rear.

Accumulator battery
Fig. 1.80. Accumulator battery

The battery is located under the raised floor luggage in a plastic container (Fig. 1.80).
To remove the lid of the container, then the side bolts and remove the cover up.
Make sure that the vent hose is always connected to the hole on the side of the battery. Otherwise, electrolyte may leak.

Removing the battery cover

Removing the battery

Retighten the side buttons on the lid (see arrows in Figure 1.81) and remove the cover up.
Podozhmite side buttons (arrow 1) and fold down the holder in the direction of the arrow 2.

Checking the electrolyte level
The electrolyte level should be checked regularly on a regular basis under the following conditions:
- At the big run of the car;
- In countries with hot climates;
- If there is a battery with a long life.
Under normal conditions, the battery is maintenance-free.

ATTENTION
Never open the battery - there is a risk of chemical burns and even an explosion. Damaged or leaking batteries should not be installed on the vehicle; these batteries must be disposed of in compliance with all appropriate regulations.

Battery with sight glass

The control eye check electrolyte levels
Fig. 1.82. The control eye check electrolyte levels

On the upper side of the battery is a round sight glass (Fig. 1.82). Eyelet changes color depending on the degree of discharge of the battery and the level of electrolyte therein.
If air bubbles interfere with the determination eye color, lightly tap the peephole.
If the eye is colorless or light yellow color, which means that the electrolyte level is too low. It should add distilled water. After 5 years of operation, we recommend replacing the battery.

Battery without sight glass
The level of the electrolyte in the battery should always be between the ?Min? and "MAX" marked on the longitudinal sides of the battery. In no case do not bring the electrolyte level above the mark "MAX"; At the same time there should be no drop in the level below the ?Min?.

Battery charge
Before you charge the battery, turn off the ignition and all current consumers.
When you charge a small current (for example, using a low-power charger) is not usually necessary to disconnect the wires connecting the onboard electrical system. In any case, you must follow the instructions of the manufacturer of the charger.
Before accelerated charge, which means a large charge current, should the two wires connecting the on-board electrical system disconnect.
Please follow the instructions below.

ATTENTION
Keep children away from the battery and the electrolyte, and to the charger.
Charge the battery in a well-ventilated room. Do not smoke around and keep an open fire in the distance and sparking devices, since the battery gives off explosive gas mixture of hydrogen and oxygen.
Protect your eyes and face. Do not lean close to the battery.
In case of contact with your eyes or skin, immediately rinse them with clean water for a few minutes then immediately seek medical attention.

Replacement Battery
Mounted on a vehicle only original Volkswagen batteries of the same size.
Our batteries are designed for a specific place of installation and safety in operation.
Genuine Volkswagen batteries fulfill all the requirements for performance and safety of automotive batteries.

Wheels and tires
Depending on the design features and tread tire tread depth of new tires varies according to individual models and tire manufacturers.

ATTENTION
Initially, new tires have yet to roll on as they still do not provide enough of their adhesion to the road surface; the first 500 km to be moving at a moderate speed and with great care - in this period, the tire packer. The successful implementation of this process contributes to the life of the tires.

Regularly check tires for damage (punctures, cuts, tears and swellings). Remove foreign bodies from the tire tread.
To avoid damage to tires and wheels should be slowly and, if possible at right angles to overcome curbs or other similar obstacles.
Often the tires and wheels are hidden damage. The emergence of unusual vibrations or pull to one side could indicate tire damage. If there is a suspicion that the tire is damaged, you should immediately slow down! Check the tires for damage (cracks, blisters, etc.). If you do not show any external injuries, slowly and carefully follow to the nearest service enterprise a Volkswagen for a thorough check the status of the tires.
Avoid tire contact with oils, greases and fuels.
Instead of lost dustproof caps should be immediately put new caps.
Before removing the wheels need to make a note on them so that when refitting could keep the same direction of rotation of tires.
The removed wheels and tires should be stored in clean and dry as possible in a cool, dark room.
Not mounted on wheels tires should be stored upright.

The durability of tires
Tire life depends mainly on the following factors.
The air pressure in the tires.
The rated pressure of the air in summer tires are indicated on the sticker inside the cover flap fuel filler; winter tire air pressure rating of 0.2 bar more than in summer tires.
It is particularly important to maintain the recommended tire pressure when driving at high speeds. Therefore, you should check the tire pressure at least once a month and before every long trip.
At the same time we should not forget to measure the air pressure in the spare wheel:
The spare wheel should always maintain the nominal pressure in the case of a full vehicle load.
The rated air pressure in the spare wheel ("reserve-dokatka") is listed on the tire sidewall.
Tyre pressure should always be checked when tires are cold. With increased air pressure in the tires should not be heated to release air from the tire. With a significant load change should be changed accordingly air pressure in the tires.
You can attach a gauge directly on the dust cap, not otvertyvaya it.
Too low or too high tire pressure reduces tire life and impairs driving characteristics.

Indicators of deterioration of tires

Indicators of deterioration of tires
Fig. 1.83. Indicators of deterioration of tires

The grooves of the tread pattern of the tires, which were attached to the vehicle at the factory, there are "tire wear indicators" height of 1.6 mm arranged at a right angle to the direction of translational motion of the tire (Fig. 1.83). These indicators are in the range of six to eight (depending on the manufacturer) are placed at equal distances around the circumference of the tire. Markers on the sidewall of the tire (for example, the letter ?TWI? or the icon in the form of a triangle) shows the location of the tire wear indicators.

ATTENTION
Tires should be replaced at the latest when their protectors nanoshu until signs of deterioration.
Worn tires do not provide, especially when driving at high speed on a wet road, the necessary adhesion to the road surface. In addition, when used tires significantly bysshee comes ekvaplaniro-tion (loss of grip on wet road surface).

Replacing tires and wheels
Tires and wheels (on disk wheels) are important elements of car design. Therefore, you should apply the acquired our tires and wheels. They will fully comply with your car, which in turn will provide a good vehicle stability and safety.
Service Company Volkswagen provide detailed information about what tires and wheels must be purchased. Many service companies Volkswagen has a wide range of tires and wheels.
Installation and repair of tires requires special tools and skills. These works may only be performed by professionals.
For reasons of safety should be possible to change a tire, not individually and, at least along the axes. Less worn tires must always be placed on the front wheels.
All four wheels should have only radial tires of the same design, the same size (the same circumference) and possible execution of the same tire.
If the tire spare wheel in its performance (e.g., wide-snow tire or tire) is different from the other vehicle tires, spare tire is to be used only briefly in the event of failure of one of the tires of a vehicle and at the appropriate precautionary driving. Instead of the wheel should be as fast as possible again to establish a normal wheel.
Never put a used tire on the car, if it is not known where and how it worked before.

Reinstall the wheels
At sharply expressed deterioration of the front wheels is recommended to swap the front wheels to the rear under the scheme. This ensures that all tires will have approximately the same lifetime.
In certain types of tire tread wear advisable to swap the tires crosswise.
