Using the auxiliary battery when the engine is started

If the engine does not start due to a discharged battery status can be used to start the engine battery of another vehicle by using special cables. Please keep in mind the following recommendations.

Both batteries must have a rated voltage of 12 V. The capacity (Ah) of the auxiliary battery should not be significantly less than the capacity discharged battery.

Use connecting cables with a sufficiently large cross-section. Pay attention to the cable parameters specified its producer.

It should only use cables with isolated pole clamps.

In the car there should be no contact, or current may have when connecting to the positive terminal.

A discharged battery should be connected in the usual way to the electrical system of the car.

Check how reliable contact at the point of attachment of the pole clamp. This is especially true of the pole attachment clamp to the engine block or to the body.

If the battery is located in the rear of the car, attach the jumper cables to the appropriate terminals in the engine compartment: the positive terminal "+" under a plastic cover (Fig. 1.93) minus "-" terminal is connected to the body.

Negative cable: in most cases, black, brown or blue.

Connecting cables required to connect in the sequence shown below.

Before connecting the connecting cable to the battery posts (+) battery on some models of cars must be pre-lid of the fuse holder. *

1. One end of the positive cable (+) to the pole (+) terminal discharged battery A.

2. The other end of the positive cable (+) to the positive (+) terminal of the auxiliary battery B.

3. One end of the negative cable (-) to the negative (-) terminal of the auxiliary battery B.

4. The other end of the negative cable (X) to a massive and firmly screwed to the engine block or to the metal parts to the engine block, to the maximum possible distance from the discharged battery A.

Negative cable can not be connected to devices of the fuel system or water hoses to the braking system.

Non-insulated parts of the pole terminals must not in any way relate to each other. Also connected to the battery positive terminal connection cable must not touch the conductive parts of the vehicle - risk of short circuit.

Connecting cables should be arranged in such a shotgun, so they do not touch any rotating parts in the engine compartment.

Do not lean over the battery is low - you can get a chemical burn!

Keep the battery away from open flames, lit cigarettes, etc., because there is a danger of explosion.

Try to start the engine.

If the engine does not start immediately following the 10 with the launch of a break, and about half a minute to resume the launch.

On the car with the discharged battery, and switch on the fan heating rear window so that when joining the auxiliary battery has not been a power surge.

Make sure that all the lighting devices have been turned off because when you connect the auxiliary battery can burn incandescent bulbs due to power surges.

When the engine has started, disconnect both cables in the reverse order.
