Parking brake system is shown in Fig. 6.45.
Parking brake system with a mechanical drive acts on the brakes of the rear wheels. Parking brake consists of a lever, the adjusting thrust equalizer, drive cables, levers, brake pads and drive expander strap with built-in mechanism for the automatic adjustment of the gap between the drum and shoes.
Withdrawal
Remove the center console dashboard.

Loosen the adjusting nut, and disconnect the parking brake cable (Fig. 6.46).
Remove the switch of a control lamp of a lay brake.
Remove the parking brake lever, unscrewing the screws securing it.
Remove the rear wheel.
Remove the brake drum.
Remove the rear wheel hub.
Remove the brake pads.
Disconnect the cable from the actuator arm pads.

Remove the ring mounting the parking brake cable to the shield of the brake mechanism (Fig. 6.47).
Remove the parking brake cable by loosening the mounting clamp.
Technical condition
Check the operation of the parking brake.
Check the sector gear lever parking brake for wear.
Check the parking brake cables for wear or damage.
Replace the cable in the following cases:
- Loose end of the cable;
- Began to break the thread of a cable;
- A cable moves in the hard shell even after lubrication.
Setting
Installation is carried out in reverse order.
Before installing the brake drum, check the outer diameter of the brake pads (if installed blocks).
The outer diameter of the brake pads vehicles without anti-lock brakes (drum diameter of 7 inches) must be 179,5-179,0; vehicles equipped with anti-lock brakes (drum diameter of 8 inches) - 202,2-201,7 mm.
Adjust the parking brake cable, what do the following:
- About twenty times, press the brake pedal with a force of 10 kg;
- At least three times to fully lift the handbrake lever.
Pull the handbrake lever up with a force of 20 kg attached at a point located at a distance of 25 mm from the end of the lever, the adjusting nut to adjust the control cable so that the parking brake lever was moved to 6-8 teeth sector.
