Checking the current output of the generator
This test determines whether the current impact of the generator nominal value.
Preparing for inspection Before starting the test, check the following and, if necessary, repair the defective parts and assemblies. Check the status of the battery installed in the vehicle.
NOTE The battery used in conducting this test, should be slightly discharged. The load created by a fully charged battery, not suitable for the correct performance of this test. |
Check the tension of the alternator drive belt. Turn the ignition switch to ?OFF?. Disconnect the negative (-) terminals of the battery. Disconnect the output wire from the terminal "B" of the generator. Connect an ammeter (DC, with a range of 0-100 A) in series between the output of the "B" and the generator output wire. Make sure the (-) ammeter connected to the output wire, disconnected from the generator.
NOTE Securely and tightly fasten each connection, since the conclusions will be fed large current. Do not use the terminals (such as "crocodile") when connected to an electrical circuit. |

Connect a voltmeter (with a scale of 0-20) between terminal "B" of the generator and "weight". Connect (+) wire of the voltmeter to the "B" of the generator, and then the (-) lead of the voltmeter to a suitable "weight" (to the body) (Fig. 7.11). Connect the control tachometer according to the manufacturer's instructions. Attach the wire to the (-) terminal of the battery. Leave the engine cover open.
The verification procedure Make sure that the voltmeter shows battery voltage. If the voltmeter shows 0, then either there is a break between terminal "B" of the generator and the (-) terminal of the battery or fuse burned out or there is a bad connection with "weight". Start the engine and turn on the headlights. Turn on the main beam headlights and the heater fan switch is set to position ?HIGH?, then sharply increase the frequency of engine speed to 2500 min -1 and read the maximum value of the current impact of the generator (featuring an ammeter).
NOTE After starting the engine the power of the charging current decreases rapidly. Carry out the checks as soon as possible to have time to measure the maximum current output of the generator. |
Analysis of the results The ammeter reading should be higher than the maximum permissible value. If the ammeter below the limit value, and thus the circuit output ?B? of the generator is working, remove the generator from the car, and make an inspection on the stand. Limit. A generator 75 - at least 52.5 A. A generator 90 - at least 63.0 A.
NOTE Rated recoil generator stamped on the nameplate attached to the body of the generator. The current impact varies depending on the load on the generator and the generator body temperature, so the rated power of the impact may not be achieved. In such cases, increase the electrical load (in order to discharge the battery), turn on while the main beam headlights or connect the outdoor lighting system in another car. The nominal value of the current impact of the generator may not be obtained as a result of overheating of the generator housing or too high ambient temperature. In such cases, allow the generator to cool and re-run the test. |
Once validated, the current impact of the generator gradually lower the revolution of the crankshaft of the engine to idle speed and then switch off the ignition. Disconnect the negative (-) terminals of the battery. Remove the ammeter, voltmeter and check the tachometer. Connect the output wire to the conclusion "B" of the generator. Attach the wire to the negative (-) terminal of the battery.
