Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) - airbags

The car is equipped with an additional system of passive safety (airbags) SRS. The presence of this system can be identified by the inscription ?SRS AIR BAG?, available on the cover of the airbag in the steering wheel and on the patch panel on the passenger side of the glove compartment.
Supplemental Restraint System SRS company Hyundai consists of airbags installed under the plates in the middle of the steering wheel and in the panel on the passenger side of the glove compartment. The objective of this system is to provide additional safety of the driver and / or front passenger in addition to the system of seat belts in frontal impacts or high average power.

NOTE
Be sure to read information about the SRS on the label located on the back of the sun visor on the driver side and inside the glove box.

The SRS system is designed to complement and work in conjunction with three-point seat belts for driver and front passenger, and not a substitute for them. Therefore, in a car, always wear your seat belt. Please note that the airbags are triggered at a sufficiently severe frontal impact, and only once. Therefore, you should always wear seat belts.
Air bags do not work at small impacts when enough to protect passengers fastened seat belts.

Example of emergency, under which fail airbags
Fig. 1.126. Example of emergency, under which fail airbags

Air bags are not designed to operate at the rear, side-impact and rollover car. In addition, the airbag will not work in a frontal collision at a speed below a certain threshold vehicle speed (Fig. 1.126).
Do not change yourself disconnected elements of the SRS system and do not allow attacks on him: this may cause injury.
The driver's seat should be adjusted so as to be as far away from the airbag, but have easy access to all controls car. Do not lean or sit too close to the airbag when the car is moving - it can lead to serious injury upon expansion cushions.
Do not put anything on or near airbag modules - on the steering wheel, instrument panel and the panel in front of the front passenger, they can injure upon expansion of the airbags.
If the airbags have been deployed, they must be replaced by a dealer or qualified Hyundai.
Do not strike on the wire, and the components of additional system of passive safety (SRS) - this can lead to unexpected deployment or system breakdown.
Do not install any restraint devices for children (child seat) in the front seat. In case of emergency opening of the airbag front passenger can injure or cause the death of sitting in a holding device (child seats) child. Do not allow children to be in a space in front of the front seat. When sitting in the front seat adult child, he had a life wearing a seat belt and the seat should be as far back as possible.
For maximum protection in all types of collisions of all the passengers, including the driver, should always wear seat belts regardless of the airbag in this seat, in order to minimize the risk of injury or death in the event of a traffic accident (crash).
To protect content in a collision SRS air bag gas is very fast and with great force. If the passenger is not wearing a seat belt, airbag can swipe it, which may cause serious or even fatal injury.

Features and the SRS
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) includes the following components:
- Front driver's air bag assembly;
- Frontal airbag front passenger seat assembly;
- Warning lamp SRS (SRI);
- ECU SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) (SRSCM).

Airbag Deployment
Fig. 1.127. Airbag Deployment

The electronic control unit SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) (SRSCM) continuously monitors all components of the system, when the ignition key is in the ?ON? (?On.") And determines whether there is enough strong was the front or okolofrontalny blow to reveal airbags (Fig. 1.127).
Warning lamp SRS (SRI) on the instrument panel flashes about 6 sposle ignition key is turned to position ?ON? (On.) Or after the engine is started, then goes out.
The airbags are located in the middle of the steering wheel and the panel opposite the front passenger seat of the glove compartment. When the electronic control unit SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) (SRSCM) defines a frontal impact of sufficient force, it automatically opens the airbag.

The panel, which is located under the front passenger airbag
Fig. 1.128. The panel, which is located under the front passenger airbag

During opening the expanding gas inflates the airbag cover beats that breaks special seam (Fig. 1.128).
Fully air bag deployment in conjunction with a properly fastened seat belt slows forward movement of the driver or front passenger, thereby reducing the risk of injury to the head and chest.

ATTENTION
Do not install or place any foreign objects (cup holder, cassette holder, sticker, etc.) on the front panel above the glove (glove) box on cars equipped with front passenger airbag. When triggered, the front passenger airbag such objects may be thrown into the interior of the vehicle and cause serious injuries.

After complete filling of the gas bag immediately starts to go down, allowing the driver to view forward.

ATTENTION
When triggered the airbag SRS hears a loud bang and allocated a certain amount of smoke and dust (powder). These phenomena are not dangerous and are normal. However, dust (powder) generated when filling the airbag with gas, can cause skin irritation. After triggering the airbags wash your face and hands with soap and warm water.

SRS system works only when the ignition key is in the ?ON? (?On."). If the SRS warning lamp is not lit or lit after blinking for approximately 6 sposle ignition key is turned to position ?ON? (?On.") After the engine starts or comes on while driving, it indicates a malfunction of SRS.
Before replacing the fuse or disconnecting the wires from the battery terminal, turn the ignition key to ?LOCK? (?lock?) or remove the key from the ignition. Never remove the fuse of SRS, if the ignition key is in the ?ON? (?On."), Otherwise the warning lamp lights up SRS.

The car can be equipped with side airbags for each front seat. The side airbag protects the driver and front passenger in addition to the seat belts. Side airbags are only designed to operate in some cases, side impact, depending on the strength and the angle of impact, the vehicle speed and the point of impact. Side airbags are not designed for operation in all cases of side impacts (Fig. 1.130).
