Checking the fall of the output voltage of the generator (2.4 L)

This check is needed to assess the condition of the wiring on the output "B" of the generator to the (+) terminal of the battery (including the fuse box).

Preparing for inspection
Turn the ignition switch to ?OFF?.

NOTE
To determine the exact fault in the joints, make sure that if the test is not disturbed by the two pins or connections.

Driving test the output voltage of the generator
Fig. 7.19. Driving test the output voltage of the generator

Connect a digital voltmeter to the conclusion "B" of the generator and the (+) terminal of the battery. Connect (+) wire of the voltmeter to the "B" of the generator, and (-) lead of the voltmeter to the (+) terminal of the battery (Fig. 7.19).

Test condition
Start the engine.
Read the voltmeter when idling the engine and turned on the load on the generator (headlights, heater fan, etc.).

Analysis of the results
The voltmeter should show a voltage drop corresponding to the nominal value.
Nominal value: a maximum of 0.2 V.
If the magnitude of the voltage drop greater than the nominal values (greater than 0.2), then there is probably a fault in the wiring.
In this case, check the wiring between the terminal "B" of the generator and (+) terminal of the battery (including the fuse box). Check fault (bad contact) to the connector and connections, change the color of the wire insulation (due to overheating), etc. Correct the problem and recheck.
After completion of the test run the engine at idle. Turn off the headlights, heater blower motor and other loads, then turn the ignition switch to ?OFF?.
