| Fig. 7.48. Disconnecting the wires from the battery terminals
|
Disconnect the wires from the battery terminals (first disconnect the wire from the negative terminal) (Fig. 7.48). Remove the battery from the vehicle.
ATTENTION Be especially careful if the housing of the battery there are cracks or other sources of leakage of electrolyte, the electrolyte, avoid contact with skin. When removing the battery, always wear suitable rubber gloves (Do not use household gloves). |
Check the condition of the battery tray to the absence of corrosion damage due to leaking acid (electrolyte). In the presence of corrosion should be washed with a solution of the damaged area with clean warm water and baking soda. Clean damaged areas stiff wire brush and wipe with a cloth dipped in a solution of soda. Clean the top of the battery solution, as described in paragraph 4. Check the casing and battery cover for cracks. If there are cracks, replace the battery. Clean the battery terminals corresponding special cleaner. Clean the inner surface of the clamps contact connecting the battery cables corresponding special tool. Replace damaged or worn out connecting wires and damaged locks contacts. Install the battery in the car. Connect the contact of connecting wires to the terminals of the battery and make sure the ends of clamps contact is flush with the ends of the battery terminals. Tighten the lock nut of the connecting contact wires. After tightening, apply a little mineral grease to place all connections.
ATTENTION When charging the battery under the lid emit flammable and explosive gas. Do not smoke or use an open flame near the battery, which is on the charge, or was recently charged. Do not disconnect the circuit under voltage, near the battery, located on the charge. Spark may appear between the disconnected wire (to break the chain) and cause an explosion. Keep flammable materials away from open battery. |
