Dismantling, check and assemblage of camshafts and pushers

Camshafts and tappets
Fig. 2.43. Camshafts and tappets

Dismantling
Disconnect the battery.
Drain the coolant.
Disconnect the PCV hose.
Remove the air filter.
Remove the timing belt cover.
Unscrew the cylinder head cover, remove the cover and the crankshaft position sensor.

Removing the asterisks of camshafts
Fig. 2.44. Removing the asterisks of camshafts

Remove the camshaft sprocket (Fig. 2.44).
Unscrew the camshaft bearing caps. Remove covers of bearings, camshafts, lifters and jacks of backlashes.

ATTENTION
Bolts loosen the bearing cap in several steps in order to avoid deformation of the camshaft.

Check pushers
Check for smooth rotation of the roller pusher. At irregular rotation or elevated gap replace a pusher.
Assess the surface of the roller. When chips or galling replace a pusher.

Check the contact surface of the pusher
Fig. 2.45. Check the contact surface of the pusher

Check the condition of the contact surface of the pusher (tip) with a valve. If worn, replace the plunger tip (Fig. 2.45).

Checking camshaft

Check the camshaft bearing journals
Fig. 2.46. Check the camshaft bearing journals

Check the neck of a camshaft for wear. If the shaft journal is much worn, replace the camshaft (Fig. 2.46).
Check the top of the cams of the camshaft for damage. If damaged or cam shaft wear exceeds the permissible value, replace the camshaft.

The height of the cams of the camshaft
Nominal value:
Inlet - 35.493 mm.
Graduation -
(2.4L) manual transmission - 35.204 mm;
(2.0L) manual transmission - 35.317 mm;
Automatic - 35.204 mm.
Limit:
Inlet - 34.993 mm.
Graduation -
(2.4L) manual transmission - 34.704 mm;
(2.0L) manual transmission - 34.817 mm;
Automatic - 34.704 mm.
Assembly
Place the camshaft bearings in bed in the head. Pushers do not need to install.

NOTE
Grease necks and cams shafts with engine oil.

The slot for the installation of the crankshaft position sensor
Fig. 2.47. The slot for the installation of the crankshaft position sensor

The exhaust camshaft rear end has a slot for the installation of the crankshaft position sensor (Fig. 2.47).

Marks on the camshaft bearing caps
Fig. 2.48. Marks on the camshaft bearing caps

Install the camshaft bearing caps. Labels on the bearing caps indicate the place of installation (the side of the intake / exhaust valve) (Fig. 2.48).
I: intake camshaft.
E: exhaust camshaft.

Installing the tappets
Fig. 2.49. Installing the tappets

Tighten the camshaft bearing cap to the specified torque. Check for smooth rotation of the shafts. Remove bearing caps and establish pushers (Fig. 2.49).

The scheme of installation of camshafts
Fig. 2.50. The scheme of installation of camshafts

Install the camshafts so that the guide pins are located, as shown in Figure 2.50.

Tightening bolts of covers of bearings of camshafts
Fig. 2.51. Tightening bolts of covers of bearings of camshafts

Tighten the camshaft bearing cap to the specified torque in two or three steps in the sequence shown in Figure 2.51.

NOTE
Make sure that the rocker arm is properly installed on the tappet and valve stem.
Tightening torque bolts camshaft bearing cap: 19-21 Nm.

Pressing the camshaft oil seal with a special tool
Fig. 2.52. Pressing the camshaft oil seal with a special tool

With a special tool (Tool for fitting camshaft oil seal: 09221-21000, 09221-21100) press-fit the camshaft oil seal (Fig. 2.52).
Lubricate the sealing lip oil seal with engine oil. Slide the gland on the camshaft sprocket from the timing belt, then with a hammer on the mandrel install the oil seal until it stops.
Install the camshaft sprocket and tighten the bolts specified torque.
Tightening torque bolts camshaft sprocket: 80-100 Nm.

Install the valve cover
Fig. 2.53. Install the valve cover

Install the valve cover (Fig. 2.53).

Bolts cylinder head cover and the center cover
Fig. 2.54. Bolts cylinder head cover and the center cover: A - 13 EA (head cover); B - 4EA (central cover).

Tightening torque bolts cylinder head cover: 8-10 Nm, the center cover bolts: 4-5 Nm (Fig. 2.54).
The sealant used when installing the cylinder head cover:
Zone A - Three Bond ? 10 or equivalent;

Areas of application of the sealant
Fig. 2.55. Areas of application of the sealant

Zone B - Three Bond ? 1212D or equivalent (Fig. 2.55).

High voltage wires
Fig. 2.56. High voltage wires

Place candles and ignition coils. Connect the high voltage wires and install the center cover (Fig. 2.56).

Installation of the guide pin of the intake camshaft sprocket
Fig. 2.57. Installation of the guide pin of the intake camshaft sprocket

Insert guide pin of the intake camshaft sprocket, as shown in Figure 2.57.

Installing the cylinder and the rotor bearing crankshaft position sensor
Fig. 2.58. Installing the cylinder and the rotor bearing crankshaft position sensor

Install the cylinder and the rotor bearing crankshaft position sensor (Fig. 2.58).
