Checking seat belt
Belt. Make sure that the belt is correctly installed.
Check the belt for damage and deformation of the metal elements (Fig. 8.69). If there is damage, replace the belt. Tensioner. Make sure that the belt is pulled and unwound smoothly. If not, replace the belt. Make sure that the belt tensioner is activated by rapid stretching of the belt. If not, replace the belt. Remove the belt tensioner.
Make sure the seat belt is not locked when the belt tensioner is tilted up to 15 ?� from the starting position and locked when the tensioner is tilted by 40 ?� or more (Fig. 8.70). If not, replace the belt. Remove the belt completely to change the locks on the ELR to ALR. Make sure that the belt tensioner makes a clicking sound during slow unwinding of the belt. If the sound is not heard, the lock mode is not changed. If re-wrap the click, replace the belt. Make sure that the belt is locked when pulled. If not, replace the belt. Make sure that the lock mode is changed to ELR, when the belt is fully rewound. Otherwise, replace the belt. Load limiter tensioner.
ATTENTION When the load limiter and belt upper anchorage strongly rub against each other, leaving traces of wear. |
A worn belt can not perform the function of protecting passengers. Make sure that the seat belt replaced after tripping load limiter.
If the car was in a collision, pull the strap tensioner, inspect it and make sure that the belt has no signs of wear (load limiter did not work) (Fig. 8.71). If not, replace the belt.
