Fuel Injection System



Models later releases are equipped with electronic fuel injection. It consists of three main systems: fuel supply, air supply and electronic control. To service the fuel injection system, installed on the car of the later releases, may require special equipment, so please contact the service center.

Fuel pump with an electric drive disposed within the fuel tank, provides fuel under constant pressure in the fuel distribution manifold from which fuel is distributed over all four nozzles (Fig. 15.11). The fuel distribution manifold, fuel is injected into four nozzles inlets located directly above the intake valves. Portion injection strictly controlled microprocessor control unit, so-called EGI unit. The pressure regulator controls the pressure in the system in accordance with the degree of vacuum in the intake manifold of the engine. The fuel filter is positioned between the distribution manifold and the fuel pump, provides protection against contamination of the fuel supply units.

The air supply system consists of the air filter, the air flow meter and the throttle assembly. Automatically adjusts the engine speed to idle, depending on the various operating conditions of the engine is provided with an auxiliary air valve, combined with bypass solenoid valve (Fig. 15.12, 15.13). Air flow meter transmits the engine intake air quantity control unit. Flow rate and temperature of the air entering the nozzle is measured by a temperature sensor and a compensator. Based on these measurements, the control unit determines fuel injection quantity or injection duration. Throttle position is defined by the driver. As the throttle opening increases the amount of air passing through the system, the compensator is opened further and the control unit generates a signal which controls the fuel supply system, a portion of the injected fuel increases.

The electronic control system
The electronic control system controls the electronic fuel injection system, and other systems through the control unit comprising a microprocessor, so-called EGI unit.

On-EGI unit receives signals from a number of sensors which monitor parameters such as the amount of intake air temperature and the coolant, the engine speed, the acceleration or deceleration mode, the oxygen content in the exhaust gases. Based on these data, the microprocessor unit calculates the injection duration required to maintain optimum fuel ratios of the mixture. Some sensors and the corresponding electromagnetic actuators driven EGI-block located in the engine compartment and not part of the block (Fig. 15.14, 15.15).

WARNINGS
The power supply system is under pressure. Before disconnecting the power supply system elements necessary to relieve the pressure in the system. To do this, close the connection point and a clean cloth, being careful, gently loosen the union nut.
Gasoline is extremely flammable, when working with elements of the power system is forbidden the use of fire, sparking devices open by fire-dangerous light devices and smoking. Avoid creating sparks when working with cables and electrical devices.

General Diagnosis
Malfunction of the electronic fuel injection system, generally do not become a cause of an engine failure. The fault is usually caused by a violation of the connection of connector cables and connectors, as well as contamination of fuel, which leads to clogging of the nozzles. Always check for loose connections by lightly tapping the terminals or twitching - the signal does not have to disappear. Make sure that all the connector pins are no mechanical damage and both mating connector inserted into each other all the way and latched. Before you start looking for faults in the system of electronic injection, be sure to check the condition of the ignition system. Make sure that the battery, fuses, fuse connection with "weight", the ignition coil, high-voltage wire of the ignition coil, distributor, spark plugs, high-voltage wires and spark plugs themselves are in good condition and work without failure. Check ignition timing and engine speed of the engine idling. Check the condition of the engine parameters, such as compression in the cylinders and the gap in the mechanism of the valve.
Check for leaks in the fuel system. Ensure serviceability of the fuel pump and check for impurities in the fuel filter. Check the tightness of the details of the air supply. Disconnection or damage to items such as engine oil dipstick, oil filler cap, hose PCV may cause interruptions in the operation of the engine. Check of air passing through the air filter.
For a comprehensive diagnosis of the electronic injection requires a special diagnostic tool, but some tests and inspections can be performed with standard equipment available in the market.

Reducing the pressure in the feed system
Remove the plug from the filler neck of the fuel tank, whereby the pressure therein equals atmospheric pressure.
On models 1986 and 1987 model years for access to the connector of the fuel pump, remove the rear seat. On models since 1988, open the hood and locate the fuel pump relay (it is located in the engine compartment near the drive coupling).
On models 1986 and 1987 model years start up the engine and disconnect the connector for models from 1988 samorazblokiruyuschegosya Disconnect the fuel pump relay. Leave the engine running until the stop associated with the lack of fuel in the fuel distribution line.
Switch off the ignition and disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal.
After this, the pressure in the fuel supply system is reduced. Close any compound fuel supply system with a clean cloth and, being careful, gently loosen the union nut.

Check the pressure in the supply system
To check the pressure in the fuel supply system is required and the corresponding gauge adapter for connection to the system.
Reduce the pressure in the fuel supply. Reconnect the fuel pump connector or connect the wire to the pump relay.
Remove the hose connecting the fuel filter on the fuel distribution manifold, and set the gap gauge, screwing it onto the tee.
Start up the engine and warm it up to operating temperature. Check the fuel pressure.
If the fuel pressure is not available (even if the fuel pump running) may have clogged fuel filter, series-connected to the pipeline. Replace the filter and check the pressure again. If the pressure is still lacking, it could be a clogged fuel line. If the pipe is not blocked, check the filter at the inlet of the fuel pump. Check the electrical resistance of the pump.
If the fuel pressure is low, it could be a partial blockage of the filter at the inlet of the fuel pump. Replace the filter and check the pressure again. If the pressure is still low, check the tightness of the pipe connections and the entire line. Check the tightness of the pressure regulator, fuel injectors and fuel rail. If a leak is detected, press a fuel return pipe (hose at the connection to the pressure regulator) and connect the jumper diagnostic connector pins on the bulkhead (Fig. 15.16). Note the pressure reading. If the pressure is higher than the lower limit, then the fuel pressure regulator is faulty. If, after replacement of the pressure is still low, replace the fuel pump.
If the fuel pressure is high, disconnect the fuel return hose and put the vacant socket on the part of the pressure regulator rubber hose with an inner diameter of about 8 mm. Place the other end of the hose to the vessel with the fuel. Jumper connect the diagnostic connector pins on the bulkhead and note the pressure reading. If the pressure is still above the lower limit, replace a pressure regulator. If you replace the pressure is correct, then, clogged fuel return pipe.

Elements of system of fuel supply

Fuel pump
Diagnosis of the fuel pump and pressure test see. Above in the section "Checking the supply pressure in the system."
To test the resistance of the fuel pump, remove the rear seat and disconnect the connector of the pump.

Measure the resistance between terminals "A" and "B" connector (Fig. 15.17). The resistance should be approximately 0.3 ohms.
To replace the fuel pump, lower the pressure in the fuel supply, then disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal.
Remove the service plug from the hole and push the rubber seal and wire.

A WARNING
It does not perform the following operation with a full fuel tank. Drain the fuel into a container designed for using the pump (do not pour gasoline in the suction hose).

Adhesive tape, label the pipes fuel supply and return. Loosen the hose clamps and disconnect the hoses.
Remove the bracket bolts and remove the pump from the fuel tank and the pump bracket.
Disconnect the wires from the terminals of the pump.

Loosen the pump hose clip, move to the middle of the hose clamp, then remove the pump from the bracket. Remove the pump from the bracket arm (Fig. 15.18).
Remove the pump from the bottom of the rubber cushion and a filter for removing the prying of the lock ring.
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal. Replace the gasket between the tank and the pump bracket.
The control valve of the pressure regulator
The control valve of the pressure regulator mounted on the wall of the engine compartment between the two three-way solenoid valves. An electromagnetic valve actuated by the control unit. The valve, in turn, controls the fuel pressure regulator in accordance with the changing underpressure.

To check valve put on the hose fitting on the top (Fig. 15.19). Blow into the tube and make sure air comes out of the bottom fitting. Connect to the "weight" of one of the conclusions of the filter, and the other post from the battery voltage. Blow into the tube and make sure air is still coming out of the bottom fitting of the filter. If the results of both tests is negative, replace the filter.
To remove the filter, disconnect the wires and hoses, preliminary having marked their positions. Remove the valve from the bracket by pulling the plastic tab. Installation is performed in reverse order of removal.
Fuel pressure control
Check the fuel pressure.
Reduce the pressure in the fuel supply, then disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal.
Loosen the hose clamp on the fuel return pipe and disconnect the hose from the pressure regulator, previously placing a rag to collect spilled fuel.
Remove the hose from the regulator control dilution.
Remove the two screws and remove control knob with the fuel distribution manifold.
Install a pressure regulator with a new seal on the fuel distribution manifold and fix bolts.
Connect the fuel return hose and hose to control dilution.
Connect the cable to the negative terminal of the battery and turn the key in the ignition switch to . Fill the system to the operating pressure, which connect a jumper pins diagnostic connector of the fuel pump. Check for fuel leaks.
Damper
A damper mounted in the end of the fuel distributor line and is designed to smooth out sharp fuel pressure pulsations that occur when opening and closing the injector.

To check the damper your finger to the hole at the end - when the engine must be felt pulsation (Fig. 15.20). If there are no ripples, replace the damper.
To replace the damper lower the pressure in the system power, and then unplug the cable from the negative terminal of the battery.
Disconnect the pipe and remove the damper from the fuel distribution manifold.
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal.
The fuel distribution pipe
Reduce the pressure in the power supply, then disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal.
Disconnect the fuel return pipe from the pressure regulator and the pipe from the damper.
Disconnect the connectors from the injectors.
Remove the two bolts and carefully remove the fuel distribution manifold with injectors on the intake manifold. Remove all the assembly by pulling it under the throttle assembly and the surge tank.
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal. Be sure to check the rubber gasket between the nozzle and the intake manifold and in the detection of cracks, deformation hardening or replace them.
Sprayers
For a quick check of the blade tip the long screwdriver turns to the body of each of the nozzles and listen for the click of the needle valve. If clicks are not heard, check the resistance of the injectors.
Remove the fuel rail.
To check the tightness of the nozzles, connect the hose from the fuel filter to the inlet fitting on the fuel distribution manifold. With an additional segment of the fuel hose and the hose adapter, connect the fuel return pipe to the fuel pressure regulator.
Tie the nozzle to the fuel distribution line, it will prevent them from falling with increasing fuel pressure.

Podstelil rags under the nozzle. Turn the key in the ignition switch in the position and by connecting a jumper between control terminal of the fuel pump, start up the pump (see. Fig. 15.16). Watch for drops or traces of leakage of fuel from the injectors. The nozzle leakage of fuel replace.

A WARNING
It allowed the emergence of a small amount of gasoline in 5 minutes.

Use an ohmmeter to make sure that the resistance between the two terminals of each of the nozzles is equal to 12-16 ohms. Otherwise, the nozzle is faulty, it must be replaced.
To replace the nozzles disconnect auxiliary hose that was used to check the tightness. To prevent the release of fuel from the hose, wrap it with a cloth, because it is impossible to reduce the fuel pressure in the system at the removed fuel distributive highway.
Remove the rubber O-rings and bushings, nozzles and insulators.
It is recommended to periodically replace these items in order to avoid a possible fuel leak.
Install new rubber O-rings, bushings and insulators.

To facilitate installation and reduce the likelihood of damage to lubricate the ring and an insulator thin layer of engine oil (see. Fig. 14.20).
Insert the nozzle into the fuel distribution manifold, and the slot must be directed upwards. Insert the nozzle must be strictly along its axis, otherwise you may damage the O-ring.
Install the fuel distribution manifold with nozzles and fix bolts. Connect hoses and fuel return hose and vacuum control. Restore the pressure in the fuel system by connecting a jumper between control terminal of the fuel pump, and check the system for leaks.

The fuel pump relay is installed on the panel under the pneumatic shock absorber. It is designed to power the fuel pump during start-up of the engine starter (Fig. 15.21). Power is supplied to the pump
off the starter, at this moment there is an automatic unlocking relay (when the key is in the ignition switch passes the position , the power is not supplied to the pump, as must first start up the engine).

To check the relay and open wires measuring plate inside the air flow meter, lock it, and measure the voltage on each pin relay connector without disconnecting the relay from the connector (Fig. 15.22). If the voltage at the contact "B" differs from that given in the Table. 15.1, check the fuses and wires from the ignition switch.

If the detected voltage deviation at the contact , check the wires from the ignition switch. When false readings on track "E1", check the connection with "weight". If the detected voltage deviation at the contact "FC", check the resistance of the flow meter or the winding of the relay (Fig. 15.23). The resistance values on the relay contacts are shown in Table. 15.2.

If the reading on the different contact , check the resistance of the self-locking relay.
To replace the relay, disconnect the connector and remove the screw fastening. Installation is performed in reverse order of removal.

Remove the two screws and pull the rubber boot with the air flow meter connector.

Turn the key in the ignition switch in the position and measure the voltage between each terminal connector and "weight" (Fig. 15.24). Compare the readings with those given in the Table. 15.3.

If there is a deviation from the nominal voltage, check the main fuse, main switch and wire gauge.

To detach the connector from the air flow meter free spring brace and lift it with a small screwdriver (Fig. 15.25).
Measure the resistance between connector pins (see. Fig. 15.24). The resistance values are given in Table. 15.4.

When resistance tolerance, replace the air flow meter.
To change the air flow meter, loosen the clamp and remove the hose from the top of the air filter cover. Disconnect the connector and remove the vacuum hose from the control air valve.

Separate the top cover from the base of the air filter and remove the meter from the top of the cover (Fig. 15.26).
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal. Be sure to install the rubber ring between the meter and the top cover.

A WARNING
The position of the adjusting screw Throttle is set by the manufacturer, adjustment during operation of the vehicle is not allowed.

Throttle knot
Check for smooth movement of the thrust throttle. Jamming can be caused resinous sediments on the back side flap, which fall from the crankcase ventilation system through a hose into surge tank and the intake manifold. To remove fat, remove the pipe throttle open the throttle and carefully cleaned with fine sandpaper. It does not damage the thin covering flap and the housing wall.

Warm up the engine to operating temperature, check the vacuum on each nipple throttle knot (Fig. 15.27, 15.28) and compare the results with the data presented in Table. 15.6, 15.7.

If the result is not correct, clean or blow compressed air channels.
If necessary remove the throttle assembly, first of all, disconnect the wire from the negative battery terminal.
Remove the air duct installed between the throttle unit and the air flow meter.
Disconnect the throttle return spring.
Disconnect the cable from the lever control valve.

The new switch is set to completely cooled down engine. With the engine off, turn the steering wheel in both directions to remove the residual pressure in the power steering. Disconnect the connector and remove the switch. By hand, screw the new switch, the pre-wrapping it with Teflon tape, and then tighten the key. Connect and check the oil level in the steering amplifier.
Brake light switch
Disconnect the connector from the brake light switch, located under the dashboard. Connect the switch connector contacts ohm meter and measure the resistance in the brake pedal is depressed - the resistance should be zero. Release the pedal - the resistance should be infinity. If the results of both tests are negative, adjust the position of the switch, twisting or screwing it.

To replace the switch, disconnect the connector, remove the lock nut from the stem switch and remove the switch from the bracket (Fig. 15.40). Installation is performed in reverse order of removal. After installation, adjust the position of the switch.
Sensor clutch
Disconnect the connector from the clutch sensor and connect an ohmmeter to contacts of the sensor connector. When the clutch pedal is released, the resistance should be zero, and when pressed - infinity. If the readings are different, adjust the position of the sensor (similar to adjusting the brake light switch).

Disconnect the connector from the sensor neutral position, which is screwed into the gearbox housing (Fig. 15.41). Connect an ohmmeter to contacts of the sensor and measure the resistance. When installing the gear lever in neutral resistance should be equal to infinity. When you turn on any transfer meter should read zero. If the readings are different, replace the sensor. To prevent oil leaks, wrap the thread when installing the sensor with Teflon tape.

Deceleration sensor is screwed into the housing of an automatic transmission. Disconnect the sensor connector located on the wire, and connect an ohmmeter to contacts "A" and "B" on the part of the sensor (Fig. 15.42). When installing the gear lever in the "park" or "neutral" meter should read zero, and at any other position selector resistance should be equal to infinity. If the readings are different, replace the sensor.

The sensor is screwed into the gearbox housing. Disconnect the connector and connect an ohmmeter to contacts connector on the wire from the sensor (Fig. 15.43). When the 5th gear ohmmeter should show infinity, and when the transfer or any other in neutral gear resistance should be zero. If the readings are different, replace the sensor.
To replace the sensor 5th gear, lift the car and fix on supports. Under the gearbox, set the tray and remove the sensor from the transaxle. Screw the new sensor by hand, pre-wrapping the threads with Teflon tape, and tighten the key. Restore the oil level in the gearbox.

The main relay
Models 1986-1987 model years

Measure the voltage across each contact of the main relay (Fig. 15.44). In contacts "A", "C" and voltage must be 12 V on track "B" - zero. If the voltage values are different, measure the resistance of the relay.
Remove the relay from the vehicle and measure the resistance between terminals "A" and "B", which is to be about 70 ohms. Then apply a voltage from the battery to the contact "A" and connect to "weight" contact "B", while observing the resistance between terminals "C" and , which should be zero. At negative results of both tests replace the relay.
Models 1988-1991 model years
Make sure that when you turn the key in the ignition switch to and the main relay emits a click.

Make sure that the resistance between the relay contacts "C" and with the power switch on the battery should be zero, but if the power supply between the pins must be equal to infinity (Fig. 15.45).
