Vehicle Identification Number



Vehicle Identification Number

The vehicle identification number is stamped on the rear of the engine compartment or indicated on a plate attached to the dashboard under the windshield. Vehicle Identification Number provides information about where and when the car was released, model year and body type.

Engine Code designated eight-digit vehicle identification number, counting from the left side. Year marked the 10th digit.

Designation of release

P - 1993
R - 1994
S - 1995
T - 1996
V - 1997
W - 1998

Engine code

Probe

A - four-cylinder DOHC 2.0L
In - cylinder engine 2.5L DOHC V6

626 and MX-6

C - four-cylinder DOHC 2.0L
D - six-cylinder engine 2.5L DOHC V6

Engine code

Engine code as marked on the front left side of the engine under the oil filter for the four-cylinder engines, and on the right rear of the engine for six-cylinder engines.

The identification number transmissions

The identification number indicated on the gearbox casing of a mechanical transmission. On models with automatic transmission it is indicated on the label attached on the front side of the gearbox.
