eleven Introduction



Vans and light trucks of the company Mercedes-Benz, discussed in this workshop manual have factory markings 901, 902, 903 or 904, depending on its purpose, but they are best known as the Sprinter. They are followers of the series 601, 602 or 611, manufactured before 1995 and to receive the same, with a few exceptions, the notation.
The models presented in this publication are equipped with diesel engines, the company Mercedes-Benz of 2.3 and 2.9 liters. Model 208D, 308D and 408D are equipped with four-cylinder engine producing 58 kW (79 hp) at 3800 min-1, which belongs to the 601 engine family. Other models are equipped with 2.9-liter turbocharged engine. In this case, it refers to the five-cylinder engine, which is structurally similar to the four-cylinder engine. It has an output of 90 kW (122 hp) at 3,800 min-1 and refers to the 602 family. Later this family added another engine with 75 kW (102 hp) at 3400 min-1 (model 210D, 310D and 410D). This engine is equipped with a turbocharged intercooled charge air.
All of these engines worked well in previous models, so they set to other models of cars Mercedes-Benz. Identifying signs are the last two digits in the model, for example, designations ending in "08" indicate that the car has an engine capacity of 2.3 liters. The designations ending in "12" indicate the presence of a 2.9-liter engine.

Model 210D, 310D and 410D are equipped with engine capacity of 2.9 liters., 75 kW (102 hp). The numerical designation, following the model numbers, provide additional vehicle identification required for service.
Described as engines equipped minibuses, which, depending on the type of engine and the number of seats designated TL12C, TL13, TL14C, TL16 and TL17C.

The front suspension is made on one of the transverse leaf spring. The lower control arm ball joints has on the outside. Strut-absorber bottom is bolted to the knuckle, and the top - to the car body. Anti-roll bar connecting the two transverse control arm, suspension complements the design of the front wheels.
Rear Axle unified with the previous model and is a rigid beam, suspended on two leaf springs and two hydraulic telescopic shock absorbers. Rear-wheel disc brakes are completed. Disc brakes front and rear wheels, coupled with a vacuum brake booster form of brake systems. The vacuum required for the vacuum brake booster, created a vacuum pump.
Depending on the model of the vehicle or at the request of a buyer for the car can be installed anti-lock system (ABS). In addition, the car can be equipped with an automatic brake differential (ABD).
