Start up the engine and set the wheels straight. As shown in Fig. 261, slightly turn the steering wheel to and fro. If a gap is more than 30 mm, it is necessary to check the steering and all parts of the steering mechanism on the excessive clearance. If it is determined that the cause of the problem is the backlash in the steering mechanism, it should be replaced. You can also install the serviceable second-hand steering.
