Check the protective covers of the steering mechanism

Shown in Fig. 262 protective cover 2 should be inspected along its entire length for cracks or cuts. Special attention is needed to inspect the bottom side. It is necessary to check the reliability of fastening of a cover of the steering mechanism and the steering rod. Worn hinges of steering drafts and damaged covers must be replaced.
