Removal, check and installation of the rear brake pads

Brake pads rear wheels must always be replaced in the complete set (4 pcs.). If the old block will be set again, then, before you remove them, you should mark them to install the assembly into position.
Removing the rear brake pads performed as follows:
- Loosen the screws of the rear wheels;
- Paint mark (marker, prescriber, and the like), the relative position of the wheels, brake discs and wheel hubs;
- Jack up the rear of the car, it is supported, remove the screws and remove the rear wheels;
- Lower the parking brake lever;
- Remove the rear section of the center console to gain access to the parking brake lever;
- Release the corresponding lock nut and adjusting nut handbrake to get the most slack rope, and disconnect the traction rope from the equalizer;
- Being under the car, release the front end of the sheath and pull the cable out of the guide;

Disconnecting the parking brake cable from the caliper bracket
Fig. 8.23. Disconnecting the parking brake cable from the caliper bracket

- Remove the locking sheath and disconnect the cable from the caliper bracket (Fig. 8.23);

Rear disc brakes

- Unscrew the screws 1 (see. Fig. 8.22) caliper guide pin 4, holding a thin open-end wrench for the edge guide pin. Dispose of waste in these bolts, since the installation must use the new;
- Lift the caliper over the brake pads, take him aside and tie wire to the front suspension. Do not leave the caliper hanging from brake hoses;
- Remove the two brake pads and springs from the calliper.

A WARNING
Shot is prohibited in brake pads to press the brake pedal as it will lead to loss of the piston of the master cylinder, brake fluid leakage and depressurization system.

Check the technical condition of the brake mechanism spend before installing rear pad in the following order:
- Clean all parts carefully and check their condition;
- Check the condition of the piston and cylinder. When they wear, damage, or severe corrosion, replace the cylinder and piston. Since the cylinder body, remove corrosion with a wire brush;
- Thoroughly clean the guide surfaces and the installation pad in the opening with a soft wire brush and wipe with a cloth soaked in alcohol (gasoline can not be used). Do not use this oleaginous solutions or sharp tools;

A WARNING
All cleaning brake spend in respiratory protective equipment - respirators, as the dust from the brake pads, released by the operation of the brakes, is harmful to health.

- Check with your fingers clean working surfaces of brake discs. Remove them from the oil and dirt. On its surface are not allowed bullies, warping, profound risks as well as other injuries, from which increases or decreases the wear pads braking performance. Allowed grinding or turning of the disc at the same time on both sides, but both sides should be handled at the same depth, and thickness of the disc should be less than the permissible;

NOTE
The brake discs with brake corroded surface must be replaced.

- Measure the actual thickness of the brake discs and brake linings. Brake discs with blue or gray bloom before installing new pads must be cleaned;
- If any of the brake pads contaminated with grease, all pads should be replaced, as there is no satisfactory way of degreasing friction linings contaminated;
- If any of the brake pad is worn unevenly, or contaminated lubricant, determine and correct the cause of contamination prior to assembly;
- If the brake pads are still serviceable, then carefully clean them with a clean brush a thin wire, paying particular attention to the side and back surfaces of the metal substrate. Thoroughly clean the location of the pads in the caliper body and calliper;
- Check for cracks in the brake cylinder piston boot. Damaged boot urgent replacement, as penetrating the dust quickly leads to leakage of brake fluid;
- To install pads check that the fingers can slide freely in the bracket support and thus installed tight enough;
- Check for damage rubber covers the guide pin.

Set rear brake pads
On cars Golf III / Vento brake pistons modernized and now to return samovyvinchivayuschegosya piston (due to work adjustment mechanism) to the brake cylinder should have a special key 3131. The piston has two slots located opposite each other, and that sets up a special key .
If such a key is not present, it may be used instead of steel strip whose width is equal to the diameter of the piston, and a thickness equal to the thickness of the grooves for screwing.

A WARNING
Unlike dent the front brake pistons in the brake cylinders using a clamp or hammer handle is impossible, as this may damage the adjustment mechanism (s liner brake pads).

Install the brake pads performed as follows:

Forcing the piston inside the cylinder using the tool 3131
Fig. 8.24. Forcing the piston inside the cylinder using the tool 3131

- With a special key 3131 (Fig. 8.24) in the brake piston screw cylinder clockwise.
- Installed on a new spring shoes, paying attention to the correctness of their position;

NOTE
Before screwing the piston pump out from a tank siphon-blower part of the liquid to prevent it from spilling out of the tank.

A WARNING
Brake fluid is poisonous, destroys the paint and accelerates the corrosion of metals! In no case do not pump the brake fluid mouth through a hose and use it to siphon bulb. Brake fluid drain into the bottle to be used only for brake fluid.

- Set the brake pads;
- Replace the pads caliper;
- Lubricate the threads of the new guide pin bolt locking compound for threaded connections;
- Push the caliper by placing it in its place, insert the bolts and tighten them to 35 Nm while holding fingers open-end wrench;
- Several times sharply press the brake pedal until the pads reliable contact with the brake disc;
- Repeat the procedure on the second caliper rear brake;
- Connect the cables to the parking brake caliper and adjust parking brake;
- Set the wheels, then lower the car on the earth and tighten wheel bolts to 110 Nm;
- Bleed the hydraulic actuator corresponding brake;
- Check the brake fluid level and if necessary to bring the level back to normal;
- Check brake system for leaks with the engine running. To do this, click a few times on the brake pedal and hold it down for a few seconds. Pedal thus should not squander.

NOTE
New pads will not provide full braking efficiency as long as the run-in, so in the course of running the new brake pads do not recommend sharp and prolonged braking to a complete stop.
