The connecting rod-piston group

Connecting rod and piston group on diesel engines of cars VW Golf III / Vento has a number of distinctive features:

Orientation pistons and installation procedure (engine 1Z)
Fig. 3.5. Orientation pistons and installation procedure (engine 1Z)

- The engine 1Z piston head gives a special shape, which improves the combustion characteristics of the engine. The pistons of the first and second cylinders are different from the pistons of the third and fourth (Fig. 3.5), so that when installing a large chamber at the intake valves of the first and second pistons must be closer to the flywheel, and the third and fourth - to the timing belt. Pistons new type are marked on the head;
- In the case of installation of new pistons Measure the piston projection at TDC over the cut cylinder to determine the desired type of cylinder head gasket. To do this, set a dial gauge on top of the cylinder block, reset it on the surface of the cylinder head. Set the indicator at the bottom of the piston and turn the crankshaft slowly by hand so that the piston has passed TDC. Perform this operation for each of the pistons, and by comparing the maximum value obtained from the data presented in Table. 3.5, decide what you need to install the gasket. If a replacement is not carried out pistons, set the cylinder head gasket of the old type.
