Checking the shock absorber

Check the smoothness of the motorized damper

Symptoms that indicate a problem absorber:

- Long swinging body when driving on uneven road surfaces;
- Increases the body movements when driving on uneven road surfaces;
- An uneven and erratic movement of the wheels (bouncing) motion in a certain range of speeds, including cornering;
- Deviation from the desired path of the vehicle during braking;
- Unstable cornering and skidding car;
- Increased tire wear, characterized by erasing picture tires;
- The emergence of clicks and background noise while driving. Clicks and light impacts may also be other reasons for the suspension of faults, in particular, weakened by threaded joints, failure of the bearing hub or worn constant velocity joint driveshafts.

Check the state of the shock absorber can be done manually or with the use of special equipment tion.

To check, remove the shock absorber from the car.

Check the entire length of the piston rod to the absence of pitting. Check the damper housing for mechanical damage. Install the shock absorber in vertical position and check his work, moving the shock-absorber rod to full stroke. Also check the suspension, shock-absorber rod moving up and down over a distance of 50-100 mm. In all cases, shock-absorber rod should move smoothly with a noticeable resistance. If the shock-absorber rod moves with jerks or there are mechanical damage, shock absorber must be replaced. See Fig. Checking the smoothness of the motorized damper.

At the gas spring shock-absorber rod can spontaneously nominated from the shock absorber. If there is no spontaneous extension rod of the shock absorber, it is not a malfunction of the shock absorber. In this case, the operation corresponds to the gas spring of the hydraulic shock absorber. Shock performs its functions without excess gas pressure, but may receive additional noise when moving the damper piston.

Check shock absorber for signs of leaks of an amortization liquid. Slight oil leakage, while maintaining the normal operation of the shock absorber. If the stain liquid from the absorber, only reaches the lower support of the spring, it is normal. With slight leakage of liquid from the absorber also comes grease O-ring damper rod, which increases its service life.

In the presence of strong leakage of fluid from the shock absorber, the shock absorber should be replaced.
