On diesel engines and four-cylinder petrol engines with a capacity of 150 liters. from. set turbocharger, see. Fig. turbocharger engine 1,8-I AEB.

The power which the engine can develop depends on the amount of air and fuel entering the engine cylinders. To increase the engine power to be increased as the amount of air and fuel. Supplying a large amount of fuel will have no effect until until a sufficient amount of air for combustion, or an excess of unburned fuel, resulting in overheating of the engine, which also in this case a lot of smoke. To increase the amount of air supplied to the engine using a turbocharger that compresses air supplied to the combustion chamber.

A turbocharger consists of a centrifugal pump and an air turbine connected by means of a common rigid axis between themselves. Both of these elements rotate in the same direction and at the same speed. The energy of the exhaust gas flow, which in conventional engines are not used here is converted into a torque for actuating the turbocharger. At the outlet from the engine exhaust gases have a high temperature and pressure. They are accelerated to high speed and come into contact with the blades of the turbine, which converts their kinetic energy into mechanical energy of rotation. This energy transformation is accompanied decrease in exhaust temperature and pressure. Turbocharger sucks air through the air filter, compresses it, and supplies to the engine cylinders. The amount of fuel that can be mixed with air, thus can be increased, allowing the engine to develop more power.

For lubrication of the turbocharger engine oil is supplied under pressure by a special pipeline.

Since the turbocharger is operated at high speeds, you must be careful and clean to pollution were not included in the turbocharger and led him out of action.

A warning

Before removing any items from the turbocharger, thoroughly clean them from dirt. To protect against contamination removed from the turbocharger elements are arranged in an airtight container. To eliminate the contamination in the close turbocharger turbocharger air ducts.

Between the turbocharger and the intake manifold is installed a heat exchanger which lowers the temperature of the air supplied to the engine. Cooling air increases engine power, as the cool air because of its higher density increases the oxygen content.

On cars with engines AFN AHH and engine power is increased by the use of controlled turbocharger. In controlled turbocharger are adjustable guide blades, which are controlled by solenoid valve and the vacuum unit. In this connection, in all operating conditions of the engine creates the optimal turbocharger boost pressure, which increases the engine torque.
