Inspection and steering

Each car maintenance check the condition of protective covers of the steering mechanism, the hinge cover rods and the density of planting. They must be
replace the presence of cracks, tears and other defects that violate the seal.

NOTE
All Power Steering issue when using different sounds. One of the most common is a hissing sound when you turn the steering wheel with the vehicle stationary. This sound can be heard especially well when you turn the steering wheel while pressing the brake pedal. This sound is not in any way associated with the performance of a steering. Do not replace the distributor unless the hissing sound does not become too loud. The new distributor will also emit a faint noise, and a replacement for the fault is eliminated in all cases.

Make sure that the straight position of the wheels of the car spoke steering wheel is located horizontally. Otherwise, determine the cause of the fault and correct it.
Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock, check visually and aurally the following:
- Reliable mounting of the steering column, steering and steering wheel;
- No gap in the rubber joints and hinges of steering drafts, as well as in the joints supple steering shaft coupling;
- Tightness of bolts and locking rods to the steering rack and nuts Ball joint;
- The absence of jamming and interference to the steering wheel.
If found to be knocking and seizing, disconnect the transverse traction on the swivel arms telescopic suspension struts and recheck. Convinced that knock comes from jamming and steering, remove it from the car and check the distance between the stop rail and the nut. The maximum allowable gap between the stop and the nut 0.2 mm. If necessary, replace worn parts, and adjust the clearance between the stop and the nut.

Check of a free wheeling of a steering wheel
Install the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position and start up the engine.
Check the free running of the steering wheel at its circumference.
Free wheeling of a steering wheel should be 0-30 mm.
If you exceed the specified value, check the connection between the shaft of the steering and steering gear.

Check the angles of rotation of the wheels

Check the angles of rotation of the wheels
Fig. 5.1. Check the angles of rotation of the wheels

Place the vehicle on the front wheels swivel stand and check the angles of rotation of the wheel (Fig. 5.1).
The angle of rotation of the wheels (car without load):
interior ..... 37 ? ? 1 ? 30 '
External ..... 33 ? 03 '
If the angles of rotation of the wheels do not match the specified values, adjust the similar-denie wheels and check again the rotation angles.

Checking the tips of steering drafts
Checking moment resistance fingers from turning ball rod ends

Removing the tie rod from the steering knuckle
Fig. 5.2. Removing the tie rod from the steering knuckle

With the help of a special device, disconnect the tie rod from the steering Ku varnish (Fig. 5.2).
Check for excessive play in the ball joint rod tip, not-how many times provernuv Joint finger in a circular motion.

Checking moment resistance turning of the hinge pin
Fig. 5.3. Checking moment resistance turning of the hinge pin

Tighten the nut finger pivot rod and check the resistance moment-rotation thumb joint (Fig. 5.3), it must be equal to 0.5-2.5 Nm.
If the moment-rotation resistance exceeds the upper limit, replace the tie rod end.
If the resistance moment-rotation pivot pin is less than the lower limit, check the gap at the hinge and replace it if necessary.

Check of effort of the steering wheel when the vehicle
Put the car on level ground, place the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position.
Increase the engine speed to (1000 ? 100) min -1.

NOTE
After checking the lower the engine speed to idle speed.

Check of effort steering
Fig. 5.4. Check of effort steering

With the help of a spring balance, check the force of the steering wheel, turning it 1.5 turns in both directions (Fig. 5.4).
The force of the steering wheel on a stationary vehicle must be 29 N (3.0 kgf).
During the rotation of the steering wheel, make sure that there are no abrupt changes in force.
With increased effort steering, perform the following checks and adjustments:
- Check the ball rod ends and protective covers for cracks or damage;
- Check the time of turning the drive gears of the steering mechanism and ball rod ends;
- The time of turning the ball joint.
Checking the return of the steering wheel in the straight-ahead position
Check the spontaneous return of the steering wheel by the following parameters.
When performing sharp turns or moderate effort on the steering wheel and his return should be the same in the left and right corners.
After steering at 90 ? C and holding it for a few seconds while running the vehicle at 35 km / h allotted steering wheel must rotate at least 70 ? towards the neutral position.

NOTE
With a very sharp turn of the steering wheel briefly increased resistance can be felt. This is not a malfunction, and is associated with some decrease in flow power steering pump.

Checking the power-steering

Check the deflection of the belt drive power steering pump
Fig. 5.5. Check the deflection of the belt drive power steering pump

Check the deflection of the power steering pump drive belt by pushing it with a force of 98 N (10 kgf) at the place indicated by the arrow in Fig. 5.5.
Deflection of a belt drive power steering pump should be 6-9 mm.
At discrepancy belt deflection specified limits, adjust the belt tension as described below.

Bolt tension adjustment pump drive belt
Fig. 5.6. Bolt tension adjustment pump drive belt

Loosen the tension adjusting screw pump drive belt (Fig. 5.6).

Adjusting the pump drive belt tension
Fig. 5.7. Adjusting the pump drive belt tension

Insert the appropriate lever between the bracket and the pump, adjust the belt tension to the desired value by turning the pump housing (Fig. 5.7).
Tighten the adjusting bolt.
Check the belt tension and if necessary, repeat the adjustment.

A WARNING
Turn the pump drive belt in the normal direction several times and recheck the belt deflection.

Check the liquid level in the tank of the hydraulic booster
Place the vehicle on a flat, horizontal surface.
Start up the engine. On the motionless car several times without interruption, turn the steering wheel left and right to warm the working fluid to a temperature of 50-60 ? C.
With the engine running at idle speed a few times turn a steering wheel from lock to lock.

The tank of the hydraulic booster
Fig. 5.8. The tank of the hydraulic booster

Make sure that no foaming or clouding of the liquid in the tank (Fig. 5.8).
Stop the engine and check the difference of liquid level in a tank at a standstill and the engine is running.
If the fluid level has not changed by less than 5 mm, again bleed the power steering system.
If the liquid level rises sharply after stopping the engine, bleed the system again.

NOTE
Incomplete removal of the air causes a rattling noise of the pump, the distributor increased noise operation and shortens the life of the pump.

Replacing the hydraulic fluid of the hydraulic booster
Lift the front of the car to the hanging wheels and establish on supports.
Disconnect the drain hose from the fluid reservoir tank and plug the hole.
Connect the drain hose vinyl hose and lower the end into the prepared container.
Disconnect the high-voltage wire from the ignition coil.
Drain the repeatedly turned on and off starter and turning the steering wheel in both directions until it stops.
Attach the drain hose to a tank, and secure it with a clamp.

NOTE
The volume of fluid PSF-3 for fueling system is 0.75-0.8 l.

Fill the power steering fluid reservoir desired brand.
Start up the engine.
Check for leakage of fluid through the hose connection, stop the engine.
Add a liquid to the bottom of the filter tank of the hydraulic booster.
Bleed the system.

Removal of air from system of the hydraulic booster
Disconnect the high-voltage wire from the ignition coil. Enable and disable the starter for 15-20 seconds, five or six times, turn the steering wheel from lock to lock.
If pumping is performed when the engine is idling, the fluid will enter into the air. Therefore, perform the pumping only when cranking the starter.

NOTE
During the top-up pumping liquid into the reservoir, so that its level does not fall below the filter.

Connect the high-voltage wire to the ignition coil and let the engine idle.
Turn the steering wheel as long as the fluid in the reservoir is not air bubbles.

Tags level on the body of a tank of the hydraulic booster
Fig. 5.9. Tags level on the body of a tank of the hydraulic booster

Make sure that the liquid does not become milky and the level is between the "MAX" and ?MIN? on the reservoir (Fig. 5.9).
Make sure that the liquid level in the tank varies slightly when you turn the steering wheel in both directions.
Repeat the pumping system:
- If the liquid level has changed by more than 10 mm;
- If the liquid level rises sharply when the engine is stopped.

Checking the power steering pump discharge pressure

Wiring diagram when checking the discharge pressure of the hydraulic booster pump
Fig. 5.10. Wiring diagram when checking the discharge pressure of the hydraulic booster pump 1 - pressure gauge (09572-21000); 2 - Thermometer; 3 - adapter (09572-22100); 4 - a tank; 5 - the gauge adapter (09572-21200); 6 - steering

Disconnect from the pump high-pressure hose. Attach the hose to the pump and high-pressure device to check the pressure, as shown in Fig. 5.10.
Bleed the system, then start up the engine and hydraulic fluid to operating temperature (about 50-60 ? C), several times turning the steering wheel.
Increase the engine speed to (1000 ? 100) min -1.
Turn off the gauge and check that the fluid pressure within the values shown.
Power steering pump discharge pressure 8.3-8.8 MPa (85-90 kg / cm 2).

A WARNING
Allowed to close the valve pressure gauge for no more than 10 seconds.

If the pressure does not fit in the specified range, repair the pump.
Remove the control device and connect the hose to the pump of a high press-tighten the fitting torque 55-65 Nm.
Bleed the system.
