Checking the fall of the output voltage of the generator (2.7 L)
This check is needed to assess the condition of the wiring on the output "B" of the generator to the (+) terminal of the battery (including the fuse box). Before the test, always check the following: - The installation of a generator and connecting wires; - Alternator drive belt tension; - Fuse-link; - Absence of extraneous noise from the generator when the engine is running. Turn the ignition switch to ?�OFF?�. Disconnect the (-) battery terminals. Disconnect the output wire from the terminal "B" of the generator. Connect an ammeter (DC, with a range of 0-100 A) in series between the output of the "B" and the generator output wire. (Connect the (positive) lead of the ammeter to the conclusion "B" of the generator, and then the (-) wire of the ammeter to the disconnected wire from the generator).
NOTE We recommend using an ammeter with a sensor of the inductive type ("Clamp"), which enables current measurement without disconnecting the wires from the output ?�B?� generator. Using this device eliminates the possibility of a voltage drop due to a bad connection to the conclusion ?�B?� generator. |

Connect a DVM between terminal "B" of the generator and (+) terminal of the battery. Connect (+) wire of the voltmeter to the "B" of the generator, and then the (-) wire of the voltmeter to the (+) terminal of the battery (Fig. 7.22). Connect the previously disconnected cable to the (-) terminal of the battery. Connect a tachometer or the control tester. Start the engine. Supporting the frequency of engine speed of approximately 2500 rpm -1, turn on and off the headlights and lights outdoor lighting, thereby adjusting the load on the generator so that the value of the current output (shown on the ammeter) would be slightly higher than 30 A. Limit: maximum 0.3 V.
NOTE If the generator output is high and you can not load switching reduce the ammeter up to 30 A, set the current impact of the generator 40 A. The maximum allowable voltage drop for current output of 40 A is 0.4 V. |
If the voltmeter exceeds the limit, it is probably a fault in the output circuit terminals ?�B?� generator. In this case, check the circuit between terminal "B" of the generator and (+) terminal of the battery (including the fuse box). If fixing the wires to the conclusion generator weakened or if the insulation of wires in the wiring changed color due to overheating, repair and then recheck. After completion of the test run the engine at idle. Turn off all the outside lights, then turn the ignition switch to ?�OFF?�. Remove the tachometer or the control tester. Disconnect the (-) battery terminals. Disconnect the voltmeter and an ammeter. Connect the output wire to the conclusion "B" of the generator. Attach the wire to the (-) terminal of the battery.
