Check wheel play Install the front wheels in the straight-ahead position (the steering wheel to the center position), start the engine and apply a force of 5 N to the rim of the steering wheel (slightly turn the steering wheel).

Measure a free wheeling (play) on the steering wheel rim it (Fig. 5.1). The nominal value of the freewheel (backlash) of the steering wheel: 0-30 mm. If the play of the steering wheel exceeds the limit, check for gaps in the joints of the shaft and steering tie rod.
Check the steering angles

Install the front wheels to the stand to measure the turning radius and measure the rotation angles of the steered wheels (Fig. 5.2). The nominal value of the steering angle is given below. Inner wheel: 35,1 ?� ?� 1 ?� 30 '. Outside wheel: 30,7 ?�. If the turning angle is not within the standard value, adjust the linkage (toe of the front wheels) and recheck steering angle.
NOTE After adjusting steering rod, install protective covers of steering rods so that they are not twisted. |
The angle of rotation of the internal wheel is changed to 0,86 ?� by turning the steering rod by one turn.
Checking the start of the rotation of spherical rod ends

Using a special tool, disconnect the ball joint tie rod from the steering knuckle (Fig. 5.3). Several times stir a finger of the spherical hinge to check for excessive free play.

Screw the nut on the finger of the spherical hinge, then measure at the start of rotation of the hinge (Fig. 5.4). Standard value: 0.5-2.5 Nm. If the measured value is greater than the upper limit of the nominal value, replace the tie rod end. If the measured value is less than the lower limit of the nominal value, check for elevated gaps or jamming in the ball joint and replace if necessary.
Check the amount of force when turning the steering wheel the vehicle is stationary Place the vehicle on level ground and set the steered wheels in the straight-ahead position. Increase the speed of the motor shaft to kolenchatgo 900-1100 min -1.
NOTE After checking for a given engine speed of the engine must be installed normal idle speed. |

With the help of a spring balance to measure the force required to turn the steering wheel from the straight-ahead position to the left and right (1.5 turns) (Fig. 5.5). The nominal value of the efforts when the steering wheel 29 N. Make no sudden changes in the value of the efforts of the rotation during the rotation of the steering wheel. If the measured value exceeds the nominal effort of turn zanachenie, check for cracks and damage of protective covers the ball joint lower control arm and ball joint rod end. Check the bearing preload pinion steering mechanism and the start of the rotation of the spherical rod end. Check at the start of rotation of the ball joint.
Verification of self-return of the steering wheel to the center position Make sure the steering wheel automatically returns to the center position, and the effort required to turn the steering wheel and the return to the center position is the same in both directions of rotation with a smooth and sharp bends it.
When the vehicle is moving at a speed of 35 km / h, turn the steering wheel at 90 ?� C and hold 2 in this position. After the liberation of the steering wheel must return to their own range of ?� 20 ?� from the center position (Fig. 5.6).
NOTE With a sharp turn may be a momentary feeling of "heaviness" of the steering wheel, but this is not a malfunction. This feeling arises because of poor performance the power steering pump at low speeds of the engine crankshaft. |
Checking the belt drive power steering pump

Click on the V-belt drives the power steering pump with a force of 98 N at the point indicated in Figure 5.7, and check that belt deflection within the standard value. Deflection of a belt (nominal value): - If the verification of periodicals - 11,7-15,3 mm. When adjusting: - A new belt - 8,8-11,0 mm; - Used one strap - 12,5-14,3 mm. Install the V-belt. Loosen the adjusting screw and adjust the tension.
Then, tighten the bolt and flange nut to the specified torque (Fig. 5.8).
NOTE When adjusting the belt tension temporarily tighten the bolt and flange nut so that the pump pulley was not weakened (to tensioner pulley is not deviated to one side), and then adjust the tension. |
ATTENTION Check the deflection of the belt should be carried out after crank pulley power steering pump to one or a few turns in the normal direction of rotation. |
Check the fluid level in the reservoir hydraulic amplifier Place the vehicle on level ground. Start the engine. The vehicle is stationary in a row make a few turns of the steering wheel, so that the temperature of the working fluid increased to about 50-60 ?� C. When idling the engine make a few turns of the steering wheel left and right until it stops. Check the turbidity or foaming liquid in a tank of the hydraulic system of the amplifier.

Check the difference between the liquid levels in a tank of the hydraulic system of the amplifier during operation or when the engine stopped (Fig. 5.9).
NOTE If the liquid level changes by more than 5 mm, it is necessary to remove air from the hydraulic system of the amplifier again. If the liquid level rises sharply after stopping the engine, then the air from the hydraulic system is not completely removed. Incomplete removal of air from the power steering hydraulic system having extraneous rattling noises from the power steering pump and a fluid flow control valve, which reduces the life of the pump and other hydraulic components. |
