Removal, check and installation of the steering column shaft

Withdrawal
Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
Remove the cover sound and lift it from both sides under the steering wheel.

Remove the two bolts with an Allen wrench (Fig. 5.13).
Remove the driver's front airbag (DAB) and the audio signal connector and remove the lock nut of the steering wheel.

Remove the steering wheel using a special tool (SST) (Fig. 5.14).

ATTENTION
Do not use a hammer to remove the steering wheel as a result of possible damage to the telescopic shaft.

Remove the top and bottom of the column cover (Fig. 5.15).

Disconnect from the steering column combination switch and remove it (Fig. 5.16).

Remove the switch from the left side of the bottom cover the instrument panel (Fig. 5.17).
Remove the instrument panel lower cover.
After disconnecting all the connectors, remove the steering column and steering shaft assembly.

Remove the bolt connecting the propeller shaft and pinion (Fig. 5.18).
Remove the propeller shaft steering assembly from the steering mechanism.
Remove the bolts anther.

Remove the four screws on the steering column (Fig. 5.19).
Drain and remove the hydraulic fluid return and discharge hoses.

Remove the steering column and steering shaft with the propeller shaft steering and dust (Fig. 5.20).

Check
Check the steering shaft for deformation and damage.
Check the upper and lower bearings for wear and damage.
Check the propeller shaft to the absence of excessive backlash, deformation or roughness of the moving parts.
Check the steering column bracket for cracks and deformations.
Check the cover or cap for deformation.
Check the operation of the steering lock.

Assembly
Installation is the reverse order of disassembly.
When installing the steering lock bracket and place it steering shaft so that the groove of the steering shaft is aligned with the hole in the steering column.

Setting
Before installation, apply multipurpose grease to the inside surface of the groove of the bearing and the contact surface of the protective cover and the cover assembly.
Connect the lower steering shaft to the propeller shaft steering.

NOTE
First, set on the steering propeller shaft, then the steering column and steering shaft assembly.

Set Bellow steering shaft assembly.

Install the steering column assembly, connect it to the mounting bracket of the steering column assembly (Fig. 5.21).
Install the steering column combination switch and connect the connectors.
Install the instrument panel lower cover, the upper and lower casings of a steering column.
Install the steering wheel.

NOTE
During installation, use a hammer, as this may cause damage to the telescopic shaft of the steering column.
