Accessory drive belt

Check belt

Location accessory drive belt on the pulley
Fig. 2.4. Location accessory drive belt on the pulley: and - correct; b - wrong; 1 - a pulley; 2 - Belts

Check that the belt is not damaged and its edges correspond to the pulley grooves (Fig. 2.4).

WARNINGS
When installing the accessory drive belt, make sure the edges are correctly positioned in the grooves of the pulley.
If the engine noise is heard from slipping belt, check belt for wear, damage or destruction of the surface of contact with the pulley, the pulley and check for the presence of jamming.

Accessory drive belt

5 - the crankshaft pulley; 6 - alternator pulley

Check belt tension by pressing on it a force of 100 N (10 kgf) in a place located on identical removal from pulleys and using a device to measure the tension measure its deflection (Fig. 2.5). Rated tension accessory drive belt is shown in Table. 2.2.

Table 2.2
Rated tension accessory drive belt
Accessory drive belt

WARNINGS
The belt tension should be carried out in a place located on identical removal from pulleys.
When installing a new belt, adjust the tension of the average value
the range specified in the table. 2.2 (see. "New belt"). Start up the engine and leave it idling for 5 minutes and check the tension of which must correspond to the value given in the column "Test"

When adjusting the belt tension, which is already used, or a new belt after 5 minutes of operation, see. The values given in the column "re-install the belt."
During periodic inspections, use the reference value given in the column "Test".

Tension measurement device type A

Measurement of tension accessory drive unit type A
Fig. 2.6. Measurement of tension accessory drive device type A:
1 - the device type A; 2 - the scale of the instrument; 3 - measuring spindle; 4 - hook; 5 - accessory drive belt

Install the appliance-type belt in a place located on identical removal from pulleys, the measuring spindle and hook the unit should be located on opposite sides of the belt (Fig. 2.6).
When measuring the belt tension and avoid touching the instrument scale of other elements of the engine compartment.

Tension measurement device type B

Measurement of tension accessory drive belt device type B
Fig. 2.7. Measurement of tension accessory drive belt device type B: 1 - the button ?RESET?; 2 - position of the ?RESET?;
3 - measuring spindle; 4 - hook; 5 - accessory drive belt

1. When measuring the belt tension device type B, make sure that the knob is turned in the direction indicated by the arrow in Fig. 2.7, to install the device in the position of the arrow ?RESET?.
2. Arrow instrument will continue to show the belt tension, and after removing the unit from the belt. Record readings after its withdrawal.

Adjusting the tension of the alternator drive belt

Elements of tension adjustment alternator drive belt
Fig. 2.8. Elements adjustment belt drive generator: A - nut fastening of the generator; In - a bolt locking bolt adjusting belt tension; C - the direction of rotation of the bolt to tighten the belt; 1 - the water pump pulley; 2 - a pulley damper crankshaft; 3 - a bolt of adjustment of the belt tension

Loosen the nut A (Fig. 2.8) and the alternator mounting bolt B adjusting bolt fixing belt.

A WARNING
If the belt is not sufficiently tensioned, when it will hear the background noise and increased wear of the belt.
If the belt is too tight, the bearings can be damaged by the water pump and the generator.

Turn the adjusting bolt to adjust the belt tension according to the specification.
Tighten fixing bolts B adjust the belt tension.
Tighten the nut A for the generator.
Check the tension or deflection of a belt, if necessary repeat the adjustment.
Tightening torques in Nm:
nuts generator ...... 35-55
bolt fixing bolts Adjustment belt ..... 20-25
adjusting bolt ...... 8-12

Adjust the belt drive power steering pump and air conditioning compressor

Adjust the belt drive power steering pump and air conditioning compressor
Fig. 2.9. Adjust the belt drive power steering pump and air conditioning compressor: A - pulley bolt tensioning mechanism; In - the adjusting bolt

Loosen the screw A (Fig. 2.9) fastening of a pulley tensioner.
Turn the adjusting bolt B, adjust the belt tension according to the specification.
Tighten the bolt A.
Check the deflection of the belt and, if necessary, repeat the adjustment.

A WARNING
Before re-check the tension once start up the engine.
