The geometry of the pivot axis

The front suspension with rack, wheels rotate around the axis pin extending from the point where the shock absorber is attached to the body (point A) and a ball joint (point B).
The front suspension with double wishbones (with floating hinges), the wheels rotate around the axis of the pin extending from the upper arm ball joint (point C) to the imaginary axis of rotation (point D), extending from the lower arm (s). The intersection of the pivot axis and the road surface (point E) - is shifted from the center in the vehicle wheels on the road (point W), which gives the kingpin offset. Compared with the front suspension with a rack, with two front suspension wishbones (floating pivots the lever) has the technical advantages described below.
The moment of inertia about the axis of the kingpin is reduced by a small offset from the center of the wheel pin. This feature reduces the risk of diversion and intense vibration steering while braking, abuse smooth operation of a steering on a bad road, and at the time of the effect of the resistance of the steered wheels of a vehicle road surface roughness.
The magnitude of the bias pin (negative bias pin) is optimized. Consequently, the influence of the weight of the axis is not felt, and the management is facilitated. In addition, improved stability at rectilinear motion as time toe of the braking force counteracts the moment caused by the roughness of the road and / or the difference between the braking force of right and left wheels.
