The fuel pump and fuel pressure

Set to check the most fuel systems

General examination

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Make sure that the fuel tank had enough fuel.
2. Check whether the fuel pump. Turn the ignition on and listen to the neck of the fuel tank, you should hear a short buzzing sound. If the pump does not work, check the electric circuit of the pump.
3. In models Probe first check the switch with a moderator, located in the luggage compartment.

Pressure check

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect the working mechanism of the cruise control.
2. Connect the pressure gauge to the hose leading from the fuel filter (4-cylinder models) or between the fuel pipes.
3. Turn on the ignition (the engine not running, the air conditioning system is switched off). The fuel pump should turn on for about two seconds. The system pressure should increase and stay at one point.
4. Start the engine and warm it up to normal temperature. Record the meter readings and compare them with the technical requirements. Disconnect the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator - pressure must be increased immediately. If you have received all the necessary results, it means that the system is functioning correctly.
5. If, after disconnecting the vacuum hose pressure in the system has not improved, increase the negative pressure in the pressure regulator by connecting the vacuum pump. If the fuel pressure is decreased, then the vacuum is not supplied to the controller through a vacuum hose. If the pressure does not drop, replace the fuel pressure regulator.
6. If the fuel pressure does not meet specifications:
a) the pressure is too high. Check whether the vacuum is applied to the fuel pressure regulator. If the vacuum is applied, check for clogged hose or tube of return of fuel. If the hose is not clogged and are not squashed by, replace the regulator.
b) the pressure is too low. Replace the fuel filter. If the pressure is not increased, start the engine and close the fuel return hose. If the pressure is increased above 47 psi, replace the regulator.
c) If the pressure is still low, check for leaks injector or injectors. Check the fuel pump.

Check the electrical circuit of the fuel pump

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. If the pump does not work, check the fuse in the fuse box. If necessary, replace the fuse.
Model years 1993-1997
2. If the pump still does not work, remove the cover of the signaling located in the engine compartment and close the jumper between the fuel pump and earth. The fuel pump should start.
Models 1998
3. If the pump is still not working, remove the pump relay from the relay block. Shorting pins 30 and 87 of the relay socket.
All models
4. If the pump does not turn on, check whether the voltage is applied to the contacts of the pump, and there are no gaps in the ground circuit of the pump. If the test showed positive results, replace the pump.

Refitting

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
2. Release the pressure in the system.
3. Remove the fuel tank.
4. Disconnect the wires and the fuel tube from the pump.
5. Remove the retaining ring pump.
6. Remove the pump from the fuel tank.
7. Loosen the hose clamps and disconnect the pump.
8. Disconnect the connector from the fuel pump.
9. Remove the retaining ring and filter.
10. Remove the pump from its bracket.
11. Installation is spent upside-down removals.
