Check the generator without dismantling

During the trip, during normal operation of the charging system warning lamp in the instrument cluster does not have to burn. If it is not, perhaps, or a faulty generator voltage regulator. First, check all contacts connections.
Also check that the belt is properly tensioned tensioning device. If the disposal is a voltmeter and an ammeter, you can perform the following checks:
- Search wire from the reverse side of the generator. Red wire connected to the terminal ?B +? generator, a thin blue wire - to the conclusion ?D +?. For the first test to connect a voltmeter between terminal ?D +? and "mass" (not to disconnect the wire, the ignition is not included). The device should show zero voltage;
- Switch on the ignition and check that the voltage is 1.3 V. If it is not, may be faulty voltage regulator or generator windings;
- Start up the engine and set the speed of 2000 min-1. At the same connecting device to show them the value of the voltage should be 13,7-14,5 V. If not, the voltage regulator is defective or worn generator brushes. At high voltage (up to 20V) can be suspected blown diodes;
- Connect an ammeter to the conclusion "B +" and "weight". Start up the engine and bring the speed up to 1200 min-1, including several energy consumers. Ammeter should show not less than 30 A. If it is not, we may have failed diodes. Further checks are carried out on the removed generator.
If the checks show that the alternator is faulty, in order to avoid high costs can proceed as follows:
- Give a faulty generator service, specializing in the repair of electrical equipment for inspection and repair;
- If you have the experience and the necessary skills, you can try to repair the generator independently. Replace the regulator and the brush is not a big problem. To disassemble the generator to turn the screws removed from the case. Boards diodes or the rotor winding can be replaced individually. Detailed description of the work is given in Sect. 13.3.4.
