Cuff pinion

If oil leaks in the area of the drive gear, behind the flange gear, replace the sealing elements. This can be done without removing the gear. It will take a torque wrench for measuring the moment of rotation before and after the replacement of the cuffs, and also the key to loosen the slotted flange nuts pinion. If such a key is not present, replacement work is not recommended. Replace cuff pinion rear axle should be carried out as follows:
- The back of the car and establish on support unscrew the rear wheels;
- Drain the oil from the rear axle housing. If the amount of oil drained to less than 1 liter, it is suspected damage to wheel bearings due to lack of oil. In this case, the bearings should be removed and checked. Oil check on the content of the metal particles. Their presence testifies to the damage of the main transfer. In this case, replace the cuff does not make sense, because the necessary repair of the rear axle;
- Disinhibited vehicle parking brake and turn the brake drums. If they are turned with difficulty may brake pads or wedges in a drum or a brake disc. In the first case it is necessary to reduce the pads as described in Sec. "Brake system";
- Remove the driveshaft flange of the rear axle;

- Mark the position of the spline nut relative to pinion shaft, as shown in Fig. 237;
- Set torque wrench with a key to the spline nut and rotating the pinion shaft, determine the moment of rotation. The value obtained to remember or write;
- Holding the flange against rotation, unscrew the nut of the flange;

- Dvuhlapym stripper to remove the flange (Fig. 238). On the inner side of the flange has a slot, which is located opposite the slot of the pinion shaft. This is important when installing. Check the surface of the flange seal in the place of installation details, if damaged flange should be replaced;

- Both cuffs carefully remove with a screwdriver and carefully clean the mounting hole;
- Purpose grease applied between the edges of working with the dust and the new cuff, from the outer side to put sealant;
- Cuff gently press in until it stops in the differential case;
- Set the flange on the shaft so that it coincided with the screwdriver slot on the shaft gear (when installing a new flange need the old flange);
- Tighten grooved nut to match marks made. In a torque wrench, check that it happened at a certain moment before turning;
- If you want to install a new flange nut again to turn on, install a new flange, and slowly tightening the nut, bring to the moment of 0.5 Nm more than the figure determined during disassembly. It is important not to over-tighten the nut, as in this case the internal parts will be clamped and will require comprehensive repair gear. Once again: a new turning point flange should not exceed the originally specified time by more than 0.5 Nm. The subsequent weakening of the nut to set the desired torque is not permitted;
- Lock the grooved nut and install the propeller shaft. Pour the oil in the rear differential, as described in the next section.
