Cover camshaft drive mechanism and its attachments
Fig. 43. Cover the drive mechanism of a camshaft and its attachments: 1 - the alternator mounting bolts, 45 Nm; 2 - alternator; 3 - bolt 25 Nm; 4 - washer; 5 - bolt bracket generator 45 Nm; 6 - washer; 7 - an arm of the generator; 8 - the fuel filter; 9 - a bolt of fastening of the fuel filter 10 Nm; 10 - bolt cylinder head cover 10 Nm; 11 - the cylinder head cover; 12 - a bolt, 25 Nm; 13 - bolt 10 Nm; 14 - bolt 10 Nm; 15 - a cover of a camshaft drive mechanism; 16 - a bolt of fastening of a cover of the drive camshaft 25 Nm; 17 - a lining of the oil pan; 18 - pan; 19 - the sump bolts, 25 Nm; 20 - a nave damper; 21 - elastic washer; 22 - bolt 320 Nm; 23 - damper; 24 - a pulley of the drive belt; 25 - washer; 26 - a bolt of fastening of the vacuum pump 10 Nm; 27 - vacuum pump; 28 - installation of the vacuum pump; 29 - bolt 10 Nm; 30 - bolt 10 Nm

Cover camshaft drive mechanism closes the crankcase from the front side. It is fitted on two cylindrical dowel pins and fastened with two screws in the upper cylinder head portion 5 is bolted to the sump 14 and bolted to the cylinder block. To seal the connection cover of the drive camshaft crankcase sealant used. On the cover mechanism attached the following parts and components of the engine (Fig. 43):
- The vacuum pump brake system;
- water pump;
- fuel filter;
- Power-steering pump;
- Bearing pin mechanism belt tension alternator;
- The front collar of the crankshaft;
- Pin-pointer TDC;
- The dipstick guide tube.

Cover the drive mechanism of a camshaft with the individual components (below shows details of the cover)
Fig. 44. Cover the drive mechanism of a camshaft with the individual components (below shows details of the cover): 1 - bearing pin mechanism of a tension drive a generator belt; 2 - the dipstick guide tube; 3 - pin-pointer TDC; 4 - the opening with a flange for a vacuum pump; 5 - pin attachment TDC sensor on the four-cylinder engines; 6 - front lip of the crankshaft; 7 - a bolt of fastening of a cover of a camshaft drive mechanism to the cylinder block; 8 - pin-pointer TDC; 9 - landing sleeve for mounting the sensor TDC; 10 - front lip of the crankshaft; 11 - a bolt of fastening of a cover of a camshaft drive mechanism to the cylinder block; 12 - elastic spring washer; 13 - Fitting the front collar of the crankshaft; 14 - a cover of a camshaft drive mechanism; 15 - landing sleeve power steering pump

The cover of the drive camshaft can be removed without removing the engine from the car. The sequence of dismantling the cover described below. The cost of removing individual units are described in the relevant chapters. At the top of Fig. 44 shows all the parts that need to be taken when removing the cover.
Removing the cover of the drive camshaft as follows:
- Remove Mudflaps in front of the vehicle and drain the oil from the engine;
- Disconnect the "mass" terminal of the battery;
- To remove all the items from the front of the vehicle to ensure good access to the engine;
- Loosen the drive belt tensioner on the front end of the engine. The relevant chapter provides a detailed description of this work;
- Remove the vacuum pump;
- To turn away three screws power steering pump pulley mechanism and to remove a pulley;
- Remove the pump and took him aside and leave to hang on hoses;
- Remove the drive belt tensioner. The first thing to turn away a bolt at the top of the damper. Remove the cover from the tension lever, unscrew the bolt and remove the retainer. Tension lever with damper and remove the tension spring bearing pin on the cover of the drive mechanism of a camshaft;
- Unscrew the front of the two mounting bolts of the fuel filter;
- Unscrew fasteners pulley damper crankshaft;
- Engage the gear to lock the crankshaft from turning. Unscrew the hub mounting the crankshaft pulley and remove the hub from the flange shaft. Often hub easily removed, if necessary, should take advantage of a stripper;

Sensor mounting position of the piston of the first cylinder in the top dead center on the cover of the camshaft drive mechanism
Fig. 45. Sensor mounting position of the piston of the first cylinder in the top dead center on the cover of the camshaft drive mechanism

- Remove the sensor position of the piston of the first cylinder in the top dead center in the power stroke cycle. To do this, unscrew the nut 1 shown in Fig. 45, pull the sensor cable out of the fixing seat 3 and lay it aside. In the five-cylinder engine, this sensor for reasons of available space moved to the right side cover of the drive camshaft;
- Remove the alternator with the mounting bracket;
- For vehicles with automatic transmission oil lines must be disconnected from the gearbox oil cooler. Open a hole close properly;
- Remove the front fastening bolts sump in the zone of the cover of the camshaft drive mechanism, and then fixing bolts rest tray;

Cylinder head cover five-cylinder diesel engine (602)
Fig. 46. Cylinder head cover five-cylinder diesel engine (602): 1 - Hose crankcase ventilation system; 2 - round seal on the cylinder head; 3 - oil filler plug; 4 - the rubber seal oil filler plug; 5 - the cylinder head cover; 6 - bolt cylinder head cover; 7 - a lining of the cylinder head cover

- Remove the cylinder head cover. It is secured by bolts 8. Previously, remove the crankcase ventilation hose that is attached in the middle of the cover. On vehicles with automatic transmission is also necessary to disconnect the rod passing over the cylinder head cover. In Fig. 46 shows a cylinder head cover of the diesel engine capacity of 2.9 liters;

Fig. 32. The sequence of tightening the cylinder head bolts on the engine capacity of 2.9 liters

- Unscrew the two screws M8 cylinder head allen key insert "6 mm", using an extension cord is not less than 440 mm in the crankcase circuit (see. Bolts and in Fig. 31 and 32);
- Unscrew the mounting and remove the retaining clip dipstick guide tube from the cover of the drive camshaft;
- Unscrew the mounting bolts of the fuel pump and the square nut on the flange of the pump;
- Unscrew the cover of the remaining fixing bolts camshaft drive mechanism and remove the cover. Since fixing bolts are of different length, before unscrewing them necessary for marking. It must be very careful not to damage the cylinder head gasket. Otherwise, it will have to change, too.
Installation of a cover of a camshaft drive mechanism must be carried out in the following order:
- Thoroughly clean the adjacent surface of the cover of the drive camshaft and cylinder of the remnants of the old sealant. The surface of the cover of the drive camshaft should also check for any damage that may cause an oil leak;
- Apply sealant to the sealing surface of the cover of the drive camshaft. At specialized SRT company Mercedes-Benz used sealant Curil T, which can be purchased, if you specify the number of specifications of spare parts: 001 989 47 20 (you can use a similar sort of sealant, such as Hylomar);
- Carefully fasten the cover of the drive camshaft to the cylinder block, taking care not to damage the cylinder head gasket;
- Alternatively set into place and tighten the fixing bolts of a cover of a camshaft drive mechanism;
- If you need to replace the crankshaft oil seal, then it should be put on the crankshaft flange and carefully insert into the cover of the drive camshaft;
- To establish in its place the fuel filter.
All other work must be performed in sequence, return to removal. In addition, you must do the following:
- Tighten the belt (see. The appropriate Div.);
- Fill in the required amount of engine motor oil brand required;
- Fill the cooling system;
- Start up the engine and check the point of connection for leakage oil.
