The vehicle identification number



Arrangement identification numbers and information plates

1 - The number of the power unit (G270 CDI)
2 - The number of the power unit (G320, G500, G55 AMG, G400 CDI)
3 - Nameplate
4 - Chassis number

5 - Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)
6 - The label with information on grades of fuel
7 - Mark with tire inflation pressure table

VIN

Schild with the main vehicle identification number (VIN) (5) mounted on the frame in the arch of the right front wheel, in addition, the number is duplicated on the nameplate. Below is the interpretation of the VIN.

European models

1 and 19 - signs with the image the brand Mersedes-Benz (star) - indicate the beginning and end of the VIN (presence optional)

2-4 - The international code of the manufacturer

5-10 - The serial number of the model (463.322 / 323: G270 CDI, 463.332 / 333: G400 CDI, 463.250: G320, 463.249: G500, 463.246: G55 AMG)

11 - Type of steering (1 = left hand)

12 - Code Factory (AE: Sindelfingen, FH: Bremen, J: Rastatt, T: Karmann (Osnabrueck), X: Graz)

13-18 - The current serial number

The American model

1-3 - The international code of the manufacturer

4-7 - The serial number of the model

8 - Additional security

9 - Check digit

10 - Code of release (Y = 2000)

11 - Code Factory (AE: Sindelfingen, FH: Bremen, J: Rastatt, T: Karmann (Osnabrueck), X: Graz)

12-17 - The current serial number

Nameplate

Nameplate (3) mounted on the rear of the front right door opening. The label indicates the vehicle's VIN as well as the permissible weight load - more detailed information is available in the executive offices of Mercedes-Benz.

Twin power unit

On models G320, G500, G55 AMG, G400 CDI number of the power unit (2) is placed behind the engine block to the right in the direction of movement on the models G270 CDI number (1) is stamped on the side of the cylinder block to the left in the direction of movement.

Chassis number

The plate with the chassis number (4) is placed on the upper edge of the rear bulkhead engine compartment, on the right in the direction of movement.
