Generator

The generator is the main power source in the power supply system of the vehicle. With the engine running, he feeds all electricity generating sets and provides battery charging. The generator produces a three-phase alternating current, which is converted to DC by the operation of the rectifier circuit is performed on the semiconductor diode. In addition, to maintain a constant generator voltage and overload protection enables the voltage regulator.

Details generator Vosch
Fig. 9.1. Details generator Vosch: 1 - drive pulley; 2 - plug; 3 - a cover from outside a drive; 4 - ball bearing rotor; 5 - internal washer bearing bracket; 6 - a rotor with a built-in fan; 7 - spacer ring; 8 - a stator; 9 - a cover from outside contact rings; 10 - rectifier unit; 11 - the voltage regulator and brush holder; 12 - a protective casing

On cars Golf III / Vento installed three-phase alternators with built-in rectifier unit of "Vosch" (Fig. 9.1) or ?Valeo? (Fig. 9.2).

Details generator Valeo
Fig. 9.2. Details generator Valeo: 1 - drive pulley; 2 - a cover from outside a drive; 3 - Front ball bearing rotor; 4 - a stator; 5 - the rotor; 6 - Rear ball bearing rotor; 7 - a cover from outside contact rings; 8 - rectifier unit; 9 - a pressure regulator and brush holder; 10 - a protective casing

Wiring diagram of stator windings - "star". Generator cooling by air flow from the fan through the hole cover on the drive side.
Specifications generators ?Bosch? and ?Valeo? are given in Table. 9.2 and 9.3, respectively.

In these generators installed voltage regulator type EL 14V4C and carbon brushes. Voltage regulation at the current return no more than 10 A is 13.7 - 14.5 V. The length of new brushes is 12 mm and the minimum length - 5 mm (tolerance 1 mm).
The drive generator is a V-belt.

Adjusting the tension of the alternator drive belt
Fig. 9.3. Adjusting the generator drive belt tension: 1 - a spring; 2 - a bolt of fastening of the generator

For vehicles without air conditioning used alternator drive belt 21,36?963 (such as Hutchinson 6 RK 923), which is also the drive belt and the water pump. The belt tension is done automatically by the spring 1 (Fig. 9.3) by loosening the bolt fastening of the generator 2.
For a car with the air conditioning system is used 21,36?1145 alternator drive belt, which is also the drive belt and the air conditioning compressor. In this case, the tension is done automatically by the tensioning pulley.
