The belt camshaft drive

Timing for diesel engines as well as petrol and, by means of a toothed belt. In some versions engines strap is also used to drive the pump and the intermediate shaft. Replacement of the belt is a necessary maintenance procedures (see. Section "Maintenance"), as in the case of the "leap" to one or more teeth or a broken belt is a violation of the camshaft, pistons are faced with valves that will seriously expensive damage to the engine. Make sure that the belt always has the correct tension, no signs of deterioration in his condition (see. "Owner's Manual"), were serviceable associated with belt toothed pulleys / their bearings (malfunctions can also cause breakage and accelerated wear of the timing belt) .
Removing the timing belt as follows:
- Remove the air filter;
- Remove the top cover of the timing belt;
- Depending on the configuration, remove the accessory drive belt;
- Remove the water pump pulley;
- Set the piston of the first cylinder in the TDC;
- Remove ribbed pulley for the drive belt auxiliary units (if by design, also remove the pulley V-belt) pulley with the crankshaft;
- Remove the lower timing belt cover;
- If the design provides dual toothed pulley of the fuel pump, make sure that the locking finger is firmly inserted into the pulley, as described in the procedure of installation of the piston of the first cylinder in the top dead center, then release the half turn the bolts of the front sprocket;
- Loosen the tension of the timing belt by loosening the mounting nut mechanism belt;
- The engine 1Z Remove the bolt, and then remove the guide roller from the back cover of the belt;
- Get on the belt marking the manufacturer, indicating the direction of rotation. If such labeling is not, do it yourself, since installing the belt in any other position will cause accelerated wear it;
- Carefully remove the belt with its pulley;

A WARNING
1. In carrying out this operation, in any case, do not turn the central pulley bolt - can lose points adjustment Fuel high pressure pump.
2. For safety reasons, disconnect the wire from the fuel valve, eliminating the possibility of starting the engine.

- As described for the timing belt gasoline engines, conduct its inspection.
Installation of the timing belt as follows:
- Once again make sure that the first cylinder is in TDC;

Offset cone camshaft pulley using the beard
Fig. 3.10. Offset cone camshaft pulley using the beard

- Release the half-turn bolt camshaft pulley and insert barbs with cylindrical end into the hole on the back cover of the camshaft drive belt, easy blows slide sprocket cone shaft, as shown in Fig. 3.10;
- Observing the specified label manufacturer (or you made) the direction of rotation of the belt, the strap under the toothed pulley of the crankshaft;
- Engage the teeth of the timing belt and the crankshaft pulley, put the belt as required in the camshaft pulley and the high pressure pump. Ensure correct position of the teeth on the belt sprockets;

NOTE
This operation may require minor adjustment of position of the camshaft pulley (pulley and pump, if any).

- Place the flat side of the belt pulley on the intermediate shaft and the guide roller;
- The engine 1Z set the guide roller at the rear belt cover and secure it;
- On motors where the gear pump pulley piece, remove the locking pin from the pulley, making sure that the front sbeg timing belt remained tense, ie that all the slack of the belt is in the part that passes through the tensioner pulley;
- Tighten the belt by turning the eccentrically mounted tensioning mechanism clockwise; for this purpose on the side surface of the hub the tension mechanism has two openings;

Marks on the pulley and the hub of the camshaft
Fig. 3.11. Marks on the pulley and the hub of the camshaft

- On engines equipped with semi-automatic tensioning device, turn tensioning roller clockwise to align the mounting indexes on the pulley and the hub (Fig. 3.11);
- Check the belt tension, holding it with your fingers at a point midway between the toothed pulleys of the intermediate and camshafts, and twisting it; the tension is sufficient if the strap can not twist more than a quarter turn;
- If the belt is properly tensioned, tighten the lock nut torque tensioner;
- If the automatic tensioner does not by design, should be accurately measured and, if necessary, adjust the belt tension with the help of special equipment;
- Once again make sure that the first cylinder is in TDC;
- Tighten the camshaft pulley torque;
- If the toothed pulley pump consists of two parts, tighten the bolts of the front pulley and remove the pulley locking finger;
- Remove the locking bracket of the camshaft;
- Rotate the crankshaft several times, and then re-install the piston of the first cylinder in VMT and make sure that the locking finger can be inserted into the toothed pulley pump;
- Further Reassembly is the reverse of removal, install components cover the camshaft drive belt, water pump pulley, the accessory drive pulley, belt auxiliary units, wiring valve fuel cutoff;
- If necessary Check the adjustment of the moments of injection.
