Overview

Air is supplied to the ventilation system in the cabin can be heated or cooled depending on the conditions of comfort selected by the passenger. Heating and air conditioning systems are separate, but the units and components of these systems are located in the passenger compartment, in the general case under the dashboard. The entire flow of air submitted to salon is sent for heating or cooling through the same casing. The temperature and air flow rate are controlled by the same controls.
The heat generated when the engine is transmitted to the coolant radiator heater, located in the cabin. The supplied air flow from the ventilation system passes through the cooler and heated by the heat of the engine coolant flowing in the radiator.
The air conditioning system removes excess heat and moisture from the interior in accordance with the basic principles of physics. Refrigerant circulating a liquid in a part of the system where higher pressure is maintained, evaporated and gasified in the area of low pressure. When expanding gas cools accompanied by recovering the heat from the air supplied to the passenger compartment fan and lowering its temperature. Further, as it passes through the condenser, the refrigerant gives the absorbed heat to the surrounding air. The cycle of heat transfer continues indefinitely - as refrigerant in a closed circuit. Of the air supplied to the interior, moisture is removed by condensation on the refrigerating compartment evaporator and flow off.

A WARNING
When servicing the air conditioning system requires strict adherence to certain rules. For most of the operations of repair and maintenance of the air conditioning system requires special equipment and skills.

Driving the Passat cabin ventilation
Fig. 14.1. Driving the Passat cabin ventilation

Ventilation body is provided by forming a throughflow of air (Fig. 14.1). Outboard air gets into the car through the inlet pipe attached to the right side of the mixing chamber, located directly under the engine cover, directly behind the windscreen. The airflow in the cabin is formed in such a way that it flows over the inner surface of a rear window to prevent it from fogging, and passes through the grille panel in the luggage compartment. The flow of air out through the exhaust ports on the sides of the body and hidden under the expanded part of the rear bumper.
The intensity of the air flow is regulated by a four-fan. When you turn off the fan automatically closing the lid vozduhopritoka, thereby preventing ingress of air into the cabin outboard. In very hot weather it is possible to provide recirculated air inside the cabin for efficient cooling. Vozduhopritoka cover moves under the influence of the vacuum actuator.
The heating system of air - mixed type - designed to respond quickly to changes in air temperature in the passenger compartment and reducing the temperature fluctuations of the heated air. Engine coolant is continuously circulated in the radiator, the coolant flow is not regulated. Regulated factor is the temperature, which varies the mixing valve, which determines the amount of air passing through the radiator before entering it into the cabin. Two valves control air flow distribution. Distribution valve 8 (see. Fig. 14.3) distributes air flow ducts between 6.7 and 9 (Fig. 14.2) located on the instrument panel, and the remaining channels of the heating system. The flap 10 (Fig. 14.3) controller heating feet and windshield distributes air flow duct between the heated windscreen and front and rear air ducts of heating feet located in the floor of the cabin. All flaps formed as a unit integrated into the air distribution box and are not subject to a separate service.
