Substitution coolant

Replacement of a cooling liquid must be carried out after any work on the cooling system from the draining coolant. If the repair is replacement of the cylinder head, cylinder head gasket, radiator or heat exchanger oil, it is necessary to make a fill only fresh coolant. This is due to the fact that the anti-corrosion additive in the coolant precipitates and creates corrosion protection. The coolant in the former operation are less active anticorrosive additive to form a protective layer on newly installed parts.

Drain coolant

A warning

When you open the cover of a broad tank on the hot engine must be careful, as the emerging vapors can cause severe burns. To do this, close the cover of the expansion tank with a thick layer of tissue and slowly unscrew the cap until the hissing sound. After the cessation of fizz slowly unscrew and remove the cap from the expansion tank.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Lift the front of the car and fix on supports.
2. Remove the bottom mudguard of the engine.
3. Place a suitable container under the radiator.

Diesel engines

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Using a coin or a screwdriver with a wide blade, remove the drain plug to drain the coolant from the radiator.
2. For a more complete draining of the coolant thermostat remove.

Four- and five-cylinder petrol engines

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Using a coin or a screwdriver with a wide blade, unscrew the plug to drain the coolant from the radiator.
2. Disconnect the lower radiator hose cooling system. To disconnect the hose, remove the retaining clip located on the side of the coupler, then disconnect the hose.
3. Remove the drain plug coolant located on the water pump and drain the coolant from the engine block. On the engine 1,6-I AHL with the code due to lack of need to unscrew the screw plug coupling thermostat.

Six-cylinder engines

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect the lower radiator hose and drain the coolant into a container.
2. To drain the coolant from the engine block unscrew the threaded plug located on the lower left side of the cylinder block.
3. If the coolant is dirty, rinse the cooling system. Since it is impossible to drain the coolant from the cooling system completely, it is recommended every time you drain the coolant to wash the cooling system.

Filling the cooling system

Before starting work, prepare the required amount of coolant of 50% water and 50% antifreeze with corrosion inhibitor G12.

Gasoline engines, except for five-cylinder

PERFORMANCE ORDER
Connect the lower coolant hose to radiator and secure coupling locking bracket.

The five-cylinder engines, diesel engines

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Screw on the drain plug coolant from the radiator and tighten it to 10 Nm.
2. Screw the coolant drain plug with a new O-ring into the housing of the water pump and tighten its moment of 30 Nm.
3. If you remove the thermostat, set it in place.

Six-cylinder engines

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Screw the coolant drain plug with a new seal in the water pump housing and tighten it to 20 Nm.
2. Establish the bottom mudguard of the engine and lower the car to the ground.
3. Move the temperature control system of heating to maximum temperature.
4. Approximately bulkhead loosen the hose clip return coolant from the radiator heater and slide the hose from the union so that the union did not close the hole in the vent hose.

Six-cylinder engines

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Unscrew the two plugs for the vent located on the pipes of the cooling system about the expansion tank.
2. Instead of the expansion tank cap screw threaded adapter VAG 1274/9 with a tube diameter of 42 mm and a height (a) of 100 mm. This is necessary in order to completely fill the cooling system of the engine cooling liquid and to remove it from the air. In the absence of a special device can be made independently. Alternatively, you can unscrew the expansion tank from the bracket and lift it together with the connection of hoses 10 cm and secure in this position.
3. Fill the cooling water in the expansion tank, as long as the coolant does not flow through the threaded plugs to remove air. Screw the plug to 20 Nm.
4. Pour the coolant in the cooling system so long until the liquid begins to flow through the hole in the hose to return coolant from the heater. Put the hose all the way into the socket and fix its collar.
5. If the expansion tank was removed from the bracket, place it on the bracket. Remove the surge tank device, which is installed with the lid and screw the lid on the expansion tank.
6. Start the engine and hold it for 3 minutes at 2000 revs / min.
7. Run the engine at idle to warm the lower radiator hose, then turn off the engine.
8. Check the coolant level and, if necessary, finish it to norm.
9. At the hot engine coolant level should be at the level of the mark max, and the engine is cold it should be between the max and min.
