Checking the fuel pump

Test condition
The fuses are undamaged.
The battery voltage must be at least 11.5 V.
All electrical consumers, eg lights and rear window heating must be switched off.

Check the functioning and power
Remove the rear seat.
Remove the cover of the fuel supply.
Turn on the ignition. The fuel pump must be audible to start working within 2 seconds.
Switch off the ignition.
If the fuel pump does not turn on, disconnect the 5-pin connector on the flange of fuel delivery unit.

Plug the fuel pump
Fig. 2.339. Plug the fuel pump

Connect the voltage indicator using auxiliary cables from auxiliary measuring set of tools to the external contacts of the plug (Fig. 2.339).
Turn on the ignition, the LED should light for about 2 seconds.
Switch off the ignition.
If the LED is not lit, check the fuel pump relay and cables for breaks and short circuits.

LED lights (power supply is OK)
Remove the fuel delivery module.
Check the connection and damage the electrical cables between the flange and fuel pump.

The gap in a circuit is not found
Replace the fuel delivery module.
Check the current consumption of the fuel pump
Disconnect the 5-pin connector on the flange of fuel delivery unit.
Set the multimeter to 20 A measuring range and consistently connect by means of auxiliary cables from auxiliary measuring set of tools between terminals 1 and the fuel pump connector.

NOTE
You can also connect the current clamp multimeter to the auxiliary wire between terminals 1 and the fuel pump connector.

Connect the connector pins 5 and the fuel pump via an auxiliary wire from a set of auxiliary measuring means.
Start the engine and leave to idle.
Measure the current consumption of the fuel pump of the nominal value of 7.5 A.
If the measured value is beyond the standard value, replace the fuel delivery module.
