Removal and installation of the water pump



Withdrawal
Drain the coolant.
Remove ribbed belt.

NOTE
To remove the water pump pulley can be worn.

Remove the water pump mounting bolts through the holes in the belt pulley (Fig. 2.236) and remove the pump.

When replacing the water pump, remove the pulley. To do this, hold the key to the pulley water pump VAG 1590 (Fig. 2.237).

Setting
Install in reverse order, with the following should be considered.
Moisten a new O-ring with coolant.
Insert the water pump.
Tighten mounting bolts. Torque: 8 Nm
Install poly V-belt.
Fill in cooling liquid.

Pressure testing of the cooling system

Screw the cooling system tester VAG 1274 with adapter VAG 1274/8 to surge tank, as shown in Figure 2.238.
Engage the pump and put pressure 1.4-1.6 bar.
Check the tightness of the cooling system.
Also check the expansion tank cap.

To do this, screw on the cooling system tester VAG 1274 Adapter VAG 1274/9 (Fig. 2.239).
Engage the pump and put pressure 1.4-1.6 bar.
The safety valve should not be opened under pressure up to 1.4 bar.
If the valve in the expansion tank cap is opened prematurely, replace the cover.
