The main element of the rear suspension is a trailing arm (Fig. 8.1). Its front part is pivotable relative to the body, and the back part is fixed to the hub axis. Trailing held by lateral displacement of the lower wishbone and the top link. Traction control is carried out at the toe of the rear wheels of the suspension. This design improves the stability control when cornering and improves handling when driving on rough roads. Moreover, quality is improved braking on roads with a poor surface. Redistribution of efforts in the corners, releasing the wheel loads in addition, made antiroll bar. The basic elements are resilient telescopic racks 5 Nivomat.
Cars V40 and S40 can be equipped with a sports chassis. It differs from the usual high rigidity springs front and rear; stiffer front and rear shock absorbers, rear anti-roll bar increased diameter. Traction control convergence and lower the lever attached to the body eccentric bolts.
