Checking and adjusting the brake pedal position



The correct position of the brake pedal in a free state, and when you press the stop (the pedal stroke) is one of the criteria to check the functioning of the braking system. At the same time, the pedal position largely ensures the correct operation of the system. If the pedal is on the floor at a distance that is greater than the regulatory possibly incomplete disinhibition wheels when the pedal is released (this is usually no free travel). If the pedal is too low, it may reduce the effectiveness of the brakes caused by a decrease in the pedal stroke.
You will need: line, the keys "13", "14" pliers.
1. Press the brake pedal to stop and measure the distance from the pad pedal pad to the floor.

NOTE
The line must be set perpendicular to the plane of the floor.

2. Release the pedal and re-measure the distance from the pad pedal pad in a free state to the floor. This distance should be 100-105 mm. The difference in the sizes of the two measurements and is a complete stroke of a pedal which should be 60-65 mm. If the distance from the pad pedal pad to the floor is not as specified in Sec. 2, adjust by changing the length of the pusher of the vacuum brake booster.
3. Remove the vacuum brake booster with the vehicle (see. "Replacing the brake servo").

NOTE
The need to remove the amplifier due to the fact that the car does not have access to the adjustment rod assembly of the amplifier.

4. Loosen the lock nut 2 adjusting sleeve, hold the rod 3 against turning, rotate adjusting bushing 1 in the desired direction.

NOTE
At the serviceable vacuum amplifier the pedal assembly and details the optimal full stroke of the brake pedal is automatically installed with the size of 278.5 mm from the amplifier to the center of the hole in the plug pusher (see. "Replacement of the vacuum amplifier").

5. Check the free running of the brake pedal, then move to the pedal by hand until you stop moving the pedals without resistance. Determine the value of a ruler of a free wheeling, it must be 8-10 mm. Inconsistency freewheel specified value may be due to the following reasons:
- Increased backlash in the connection plug pushrod amplifier and a pedal, which may be due to wear of the plug and pin holes in the fork and the pedal;
- Properly adjust the distance from the site of a pedal in a free state to the floor (see. P. 2).
6. If the travel is more than the value given in n. 2, it indicates the presence of air in the hydraulic brakes or wear limit brake linings, brake discs or drums. Remove air from the hydraulic drive (see. "Bleeding the hydraulic drive of brake system"), or replace the brake pads (see. "Replacing the brake pads brake front wheel"; "Replacing the brake pads Rear brake") discs (see. "Replacing the brake disk ') or the drums (see. "Removing and installing the brake drum").

A WARNING
If pressed to stop and hold the pedal in this position gradually moves to the floor, it indicates the leakage of fluid from the hydraulic circuit or a faulty master cylinder. These failures are very dangerous, so immediately locate the leak and repair it or replace the brake master cylinder!
