Static test

Belt tensioner mounted units can be checked statically, acting as described below.

Remove the ancillary drive belt in the area of the belt tensioner.

Using a special tool, move the belt tensioner from its free position to a full stroke and back to the free position to make sure that there is no jamming and tacking, and make sure that the belt tensioner spring is under tension.

Turn the pulley belt tensioner mounted units and check it for damage and freedom of rotation and proper alignment. If necessary, install new tensioner.

Dynamic check

With the engine running, observe the movement of the belt tensioner. The tensioner should move (to respond) of the engine under hard acceleration or when the clutch cycling A / C.
