The switching circuit selector lever switch ranges
Fig. 1.157. The switching circuit selector lever switch ranges

The starter can be enabled only when the range is in the "P" (park) or ?N? (neutral) (Fig. 1.157).

The position "P" (parking).
In this position range switch mechanically locked the front wheels from rotating.

ATTENTION
Translation of the lever range switch to "P" (park), ?N? (neutral) or ?R? (reverse) while driving can damage the transmission.

Translation stalk ranges in position ?D? (movement) or ?R? (Reverse) when the engine is running at speeds above idle can damage the transmission.

The position ?R? (reverse).
If the lever is in position ?R?, then the reverse gear is engaged and the vehicle can move backward. Turn on and off the reverse gear is necessary only when the vehicle is stationary. The only exceptions are rare cases when it is necessary to withdraw the stuck vehicle via rocking.

The position ?N? (neutral).
In position ?N? none of the gears in the transmission is engaged and the front wheels are disconnected from the engine. The vehicle can roll freely even in the presence of a small slope of the road, unless the parking brake is not pressed or the brake pedal.

NOTE
To avoid unexpected pick-up car from the scene, or apply the parking brake, press the brake pedal before setting stalk ranges from position ?N? (neutral).

Position ?D? (movement).
Range ?D? is designed for normal driving. After pulling the car from a place and at least overclocking automatically sequential gearshift - first to fourth.

The position "M" (switching to manual mode).
The position "M" is designed to shift manually. The driver can switch the transmission sequentially to higher or lower gear by moving the lever in the appropriate direction.
