The connecting rod and connecting rod bearing

The connecting rod and connecting rod bearing
Fig. 2.18. The connecting rod and connecting rod bearing 1 - the extension; 2 - rod; 3 - parting surface; 4 - a cover of a rod; 5 - the bearing rod

Rod is made of hardened alloy structured to improve rigidity. Usual mounting dowel rod bearing is not used. When installing the bearing to measure the position of the bearing and place it so that it was located in the center of the connecting rod and the connecting rod bearing cap. Lower head and connecting rod cap are formed in the manufacture of a single piece, and then separated into the connecting rod and cap. For the combination of the connecting rod cap and use the surface configuration of the connector. Connecting rod bolt torque is in the area of plasticity tightening is carried out in two steps. Upper connecting rod bearing liner is made of aluminum alloy (Fig. 2.18).

NOTE
There are three types of the connecting rod bearing inserts depending upon the desired gap.

Contour accessory drive belt
Fig. 2.19. Contour accessory drive belt: 1 - a pulley of power steering pump; 2 - the drive belt; 3 - idler pulley; 4 - a pulley of the generator; 5 - automatic tensioner; 6 - the crankshaft pulley; 7 - a pulley of the compressor of the air conditioning; 8 - the water pump pulley

The system accessory drive uses a single serpentine belt. This reduces the length of the engine and facilitates maintenance circuit. For belt automatic tensioner is used with a coil spring. A pulley tensioner automatically maintains the belt tension (2.19).
